MTX 2300x amp
2x kicker comp 12's
Amp gets power, red light comes on it, but absolutely positively no sound coming from the subs. We've tried different RCA's, checked every option on the deck and tried both sets of RCA's on there as well.
I figured the amp light should be green but a gentleman who we spoke to on the phone(owns an audio/tint/alarm shop) said that if the ground per chance were bad there would be no power to the amp at all. Any ideas? I'm running by his shop tomorrow and he's going to run it over real fast and check, and possibly check to see if the amp is smoked or not. We're going to try a buddy of mines older pioneer amp thats at the shop to see if thats the case. Any ideas would be great. Spent quite a few hours wiring the car up just to get no sound from the subs :(

Well you took out the idea of RCAs. Guessing the decks RCA outputs are good you got signal in. The MTX amps, as I remember, have a red light only. Since you have a light I would say you have power, ground, and remote taken care of. Do both subs go to a single terminal cup on the box? If so check to see if one of the wires came disconected. If you have any kinda speaker laying around, hook it up to count out the subs. Is the gain turned all the way down? Knowing my luck with MTX amps I would say its fryed but who knows. Peace, Lee

Thanks for the ideas man, we're going to try some subs tomorrow(its 1 am and im tired) and try the different amp to see if thats it. There's 3 fuses on the amp itself and he figured if even 1 were blown it wouldn't turn on so we ruled that out(still havent checked, will do that tomorrow as well) and try that other amp and see what happens there.
Speaker wire we have it running just stereo, we had it bridged to 2 ohm, the amp says at 12 volts, 600 watts @ 4 ohm bridged which is what the drivers are rated at and 150x2@4 ohm in stereo which is how we have it connected now. We'll likely take the subs out of the box tomorrow and check the wire there as well. Sorta depressed about it, if it's the amp we're going to use my buddy's old pioneer just for the sake of using it till I can get another. Think I'll get a phoenix gold or something...

my guess is that ur subs might be fried.....that or your rca cables but seeing as you checked them already....

The subs were brand new outta the box :( We're testing all of it today and if its the amp I've got my eye on a new one.
Buddy of mine has a PPI PC 2100 amp in his car and his 4 10 JL's f'in pound with it, so I'm checking out a PC 2400 on ebay brand new in box for dog ass cheap, its a year old model so its not the newest thing but it'll produce more power than I'll ever use. I'll know soon enough and let you all know.

i really wanna know too. it sounds like wireing. did you say its wired in stereo? bridge the amp with the 4 ohm load, but bridge the correct channels. either way, that wont cause it to give no output.
what deck are you using? maybe the sub out is turned off?

Everything that *I* did was right, my buddy managed to hook up the wires from the box terminals to the subs wrong. Both subs have 2 terminals on each side and he only looked at one side. Switched those like they were supposed to be(both were on negative or positive) and bam, works perfectly. Dynamat helped my trunk immensely but I have a bit more work to do because I still have some rattles. Thanks for the kick ass amp dave and that audio shop I ran by at lunch has my bidness now, he didnt charge me anything to check it all out.
I'm running them in stereo and its painful enough, I'm not sure I want to bridge the amp and run it at the 2 ohm load it said it would work at, might get too hot for one and I dont need anymore for 2. :D

BTW I did some tweaking with the gain and it sounds very clean, the dynamat is helping the trunk rattle immensely, got some more left over(1 sheet and half another), but to dynamat the tag because it rattles like crazy and I gotta figure out how to keep my EXHAUST from shaking. Time to order some nice 6 1/2's for the doors(have the metra adapters already) so I can HEAR the music again, lol :D
BTW anyone have the instructions on getting the doors apart? I haven't really looked but would like a better guide than me prying on stuff(im a computer tech, i learned the right way :D) on stuff trying to get it loose to change the door speakers :D

well, im glad it worked. i always worry when something i sold doesnt work out right, but i knew it worked. im glad youre enjoying it.
i forget if you have a 2 or 4 door, but it should be the same. theres 4 screws:
1) bottom on handle
2) behind red refector
3) behind power window switch
4) behind door lever
with those off, take off the sail panel (where your tweeter should be) it just pops off. then just pull on the panel. if you have a panel popper use it to pop the clips that are located about 6 inches apart around the edges.

Thanks Dave :) Will be ordering a set of 6 1/2's soon. What would you recommend for a decent set that isnt going to plow me outright? I was looking at a set of either eclipses or clarions :)
