I have a 1999 grand am gt. I am having problems with my strut mounts due to the fact that i have 18in rims on my car. Every time i turn the wheel the strut is making a noise. The mechanic says there is to much pressure on the strut mount because my tires are so thin. 3 months ago i had the factory strut mount replaced with the same factory strut mount and now they are making the same noise again.

So i know i am going to need new strut mounts, ones that will be able to take all the force .wha kind would work best for my problem and car ???

also ....

Has any one had problems with their strut or strut mounts when getting rims for their grand am???

need help :???:

Is it you struts? Or is it your strut mounts? :brows: Since the strut mounts take all the suspension load, and the struts are mearly there to control the springs, it may be the strut mounts.

If they make a sqeak and sqawk every once in a while; dont fret it, but if it's quite a bit, I would get them replaced, along with the struts, which I suspect are the originals. How many miles on the car?

i have 67,000 on it. I already had the strut and coil springs replaced 3 months ago. My mechanic says it is bcause of my rims, the tire wall is so small. I was just wondering if there was anything that some one makes that is heavy duty. I will probably go somewhere else and have it looked at. I apreciate your help !!!

Hmmmmmmmm, this sounds offly familar to me.....I just got my mounts replaced because of the ball bearings were missing in the mounts when i got my lowering springs installed......If theres a noise, its because the two metal plates in the mounts are rubbing together when you turn the well.Hows your steering after you make a turn at a light or onto another street? I had my car aligned and it was still pulling and it was also cuz the ball bearings were missing.....Im pretty sure your having the same problem, that is if you have had your car lowered,or they just might need replaced, the tires/rims do not really affect the struts.

That might be it. It only makes like a clicking noise when i turn the wheel really sharp or when i turn my car into a parking spot. Thanks for the reply bro.

just take your car in and see if you just need the bearings replaced,i didn't need my whole mount replaced, just the bearings. The mounts are cheap for what they are, around here they can range from 40-56 bucks. But you might just need the bearings replaced, from what i understand your problem sounds just like the one i had.

Oh thats pretty much what mine did as well......After i got my car aligned(which is what i thought would cure the noise) there was no more noise when i turned the well, but a little after that the noise started again, since ive gotten the bearings replaced there is no more noise.
