What does GT mean, or SE, all these 2 letter things that go with cars. I kinda feel dumb , but i don't know thanks for the help

you should do a search, this has been brought up many times, but here it is:

GT= Gran Tursimo
SE= sports or special edition
LE= lauxery or limited edition

atleast that's what I think everyone agreed on

GT means "Grand Touring" SE probably means special edition...just trim levels of cars made up by auto makers....what does my Ranger mean by XLT? Just different levels of trim.

doesnt SE mean Sedan Edition, or is it just me? I'm pretty sure im right on this one, and if not...just another option if you want to call it something different.

xlt= extreme light truck
gtp= grand touring Grand prix
gold edition, gold trim and options
se= standard/special edition
le= limeted edition
etc etc etc, they are all different packages that include things from different engines to power options, to wether or not oyu have mirriors on your visors.

I agree SE does not stand for 'Sedan Edition', but on other vechiles 'SE" stands for Sports Edition' Each automaker has their own acronym.

But as for your 'coupe' being a 'sedan' it actually is a sedan.
Decades ago classification would call any car with a back seat and a trunk a 'sedan' and any fastback styled vehicle a 'coupe'. Also 'sportscars' where those without a rear seat.
Odviously over the years styles have crossed over so much sometimes you can't tell if a vehicle is a car or a SUV let alone a coupe or sports car. I generally ignore when people call cars like a Celica or Eclipse a 'Sportscar' when it's really a 'Sport Compact' as a Camaro etc is either a Pony Car or a Sports Coupe. So many different labels these days it's hard to judge what is what.

Gran Turismo means Grand Touring.

And while we are on the subject for those that do not know, 'Am' in Grand Am, Trans Am, Can Am, etc stands for Americano or America.

ON my old 92, SE stood for sports edition, at least that's what it said. It definately wasn't fast (4cyl. ohc)

To be honest I'm pretty sure that "Gran Turisimo" Just means Grand Touring in another language. Not positive though.

To me SE stands for Standard Edition. It is the base model, why would it be special or sport??

Grand Tourismo is Italian I think, while Grand Tour is English. Thats just what I have heard.

SE isn't always the base model. It just happens to be so on the '92+ Grand Am.

It's kinda like in the old days a Plymouth GTX, or an American Motors AMX, where the 'X' nominally stood for 'Experimental', even though these were also cars in relatively wide production. At least that was how it was explained to me then. What did I know? I was a kid. I think some of the letter designations are just to give the cars some kind of distinction, and have no real meaning.

No you are correct. The 'X' in GNX also stands for Experimental.

You're exactly right, IMO. They're just trim level designations, they have no real meaning (At least with these cars).
