View Full Version : Hot transmission = clunky shifting

Ok so this damn car, on a nice warm beautiful day, drives pretty nicely right off the bat. Nice smooth shifts, no power loss....

after a couple minutes of warming up, after sitting at say a light or sometinhg and it turns green, I give it some gas and it goes ... and then as it goes to shift after a few seconds it goes CLUNK *crunch* and loses power and the whole car lurches before it goes on its merry way again.

The thing only has 31500 miles on it, 2001 GA, what could have caused the transmission to start to foul up like this already? I mean, on any other decent car I've driven or been in none has had this kind of harsh, feelable, AUDIBLY GROTESQUE sounding shifting.

Is it possible that the previous owners abused the crap out of this car? I believe it was actually a trade-in at 29000 miles.

Immediately after purchasing the car, these things were fixed:

Suspension COMPLETELY redone (repair documents in fact said SAFETY CONCERN, true - I thought I was going to literally jump off the road at times or that the car would bottom out on a bump -it appears the car was lowered by cutting the springs, and barely at all even!)

Rotors/Pads replaced (warped and very unlevel surfaces, car shuddered like it was falling apart at every seam)

many other minor things like window regulator, trunk latch, leaky rear window, broken AC dial, etc.

any reason to believe something bad has happened to this car that would screw with the transmission?

Pull the dip stick on the trany, the fluid should be bright red and not smell burnt.

It kind of sounds like the screen is dirty or fluid is bad.

your car had been abused terribly. I drive my car hard and have the V6 and although my suspension isn't very good anymore I am driving around of factory at 65K miles
