hello all,
My boss just bought some new tires for the 2000 dakota at work and the old tires are just going to get thrown out, so i was wondering if they would fit on my car. I have a 94 grand am se. The tires i have on now are P195/65 R15's and the tires from the dakota are P255/65 R15's. They are pretty wide and i am not thinking that they will fit. Will they???? If not i have them to sell anyway.
:D

Well IIRC the proper tire size for a 15" wheel on a GA should be 205/60R15.
Now lets break this down. 195/65R15
The 195 is the width of the tire in milimeters.
the 65 is the aspect ratio of the sidewall. Basically a percentage of the width. So in the case it's 65% of 195mm.
R stands for radial, and often you will have the speed rating there like 'ZR'.
And obviously the 15 is the rim diameter in inches.
But you want to know fit it will fit. Simply looking at it should tell you the answer. But basically a 195/65R15 has a overall diameter for 25". So you need to stay near that height, and with a 255/65R15 you will have a overall diameter of about 28.1". 3.1" inches taller will seriously rub. Plus the fact that a 255 is way to wide for your rim, and the wheel wells for that matter.
So in simple terms, no it will not fit.

Thank you for your comments. I didn't think that they would fit because of the 255mm width of the tire compared to the 195mm width of my tire. I had someone tell me that 245/65R18 would fit on my car so i didn't know if i could stretch that out to 255's. I had planned on getting different rims for the 255's also if they had fit, but i guess that they are up for sale now. Thanks again for the help!! you guys (gals) are great!!!!

There is no way in hell a 245/65R18, unless you plan on installing a lift kit and chopping out the fender wells. Those tires would be 7" taller than stock!
