hey all i have a question hopefully one of you can answer.. k im thinking about getting an ase speed chip, do you guys recommend it? like im looking for a small increase in hp ( a chip might give me 10 at the wheels) but i dont want to have to start filling up with expensive gas just to run the damn thing properly.. oh just another thing.. does the chip end up killing your engine more so than without one?

... you will definately need to use supreme gasoline afterwards :)

crap.. guess that cancels that upgrad out of my list.. still gotta get a CAI, SLP cat-back exhaust and neon undercar lights though.. then.. hopefully close to that magical 200hp mark...ahhh that would be such a nice dream.. then id be finally able to beat my dad and his 2002 accord...

why does it require higher octane to run?

Because of the advanced timing, from what I've been told. :)

is it really that much to run the good stuff in your car?
I know the newer engines are designed to run on the cheap stuff, but IMO it would be better to run mid-grade all the time and about 1-2 times/month fill up with the good stuff

well put it this way.. gas is expensive.. guess i either get my chip and start filing up with the mid stuff or supreme.. or i go without the chip and dont get the hp.. hmm tough to consider but right now i dont got money for anythign new... damnit!

Not only are you not going to get the horsepower, but you're still going to be stuck with the rev limiters, and the speed governor.
Have you considered sending ASE an email, explaining you want your computer mapped to run on mid- or regular grade gasoline? You won't get as much power, but you will get the other benefits that their custom work provides - which also include modification to the transmission shift points as well as an increase in the firmness of the shifts.

hmm thats kinda stuff i never really considered... oh.. one thing though.. i thought the ase chip would remove the speed govenor and get me 20 hp (as they advertise which im pretty sure is bs so i thought it might give me 10). crap... summer isnt cmoing fast enough to get me making some money so i can buy stuff for my car.. but yea.. i think i will contact ase... just not right now when ive got very limited funds... this school crap is wearing me thin on the green.

Yes it does eliminate the governor just like Jason stated. 20 hp no way. Mfuller on GAGT dynoed his with an Alero and it gained 7hp at peak power, not sure what the max gains were tho

... not sure if you can compare the result Matt may have dyno'd though as his care has a ton of other modifications done to it and they might not function as well with the changes made to the computer compared to altering a stock GA  ... just my thoughts :)

That was one of his first mods i believe, I know for sure before the headers so all else he would have had is CAI, cat-back, UIM, LIM, and TB AT MOST so I dont think theres A LOT of hp there.

OK ... I take back what I said as my logic only applied if it was done AFTER all the rest ... I have no comment now :)

I did a search on GAGT and his peak gain was 10hp

whoa k hold on a sec.. jason said that the rev limiter and speed govenor will still be activated with the chip installed and yet the someone else said that those 2 things would be deactivated./ im confused

10 HP at the wheels isn't too bad ... what was his increase in torque?

Jason was saying that if you DONT get the chip you will be stuck with the limiters. And it didnt say what the increase in torque was. So to sum it up 7hp at peak, 10 hp max, rev limiter at 6200 or 6300 rpms, no governor, firmer shifts for downtime and $300
