Ok the 2001 GA has a nice little list of things that need to be fix or replace. Today I had my driver window about 1/4 the way down. When i went to let it up I heard the scraping sound (some what loud) So i let the window all he way down and there is no sound. As I let the window up there is the sound again. Then the windows stops for a sec. And there is this loud pop. But the windows works fine now, no scraping sound or poping. So I get out and shut the door and there is a rattle in the door, like a piece of metal in the bottom of the door. I move the door real quick, and yep there is a rattle.
I know should take the door apart to see what it was, but i don't time to do that right now. Any ideals of what might broke off.

ok well today i took the door panel off, and one of the window lifters broke off. Alone with a few plastic parts. But the window still works fine, oh well i got 3 more windows i can use. But i have no ideal where it broke off from. It is a "L" shape piece of metal.

That is the same thing mine did, the plastic broke off of one of the lifters, and the other lifter came off completely...i have my window rednecked up with a peice of wood right now until i get time to fix it, it is a giant PITA to not be able to roll the passenger window down

RocketFast, how do you treat your car if you have a 2001 and have all that wrong with it?
Wow, my 2000 is still running like a dream

Good, it use to be a rental car soo that is where some of the problems come in. Some one stole my grill off of it. And at school i think someone bump both of my mirrors. One is one there with one bolt and the other is on there with 2 bolts. I think the rental car place never rotated the tires. When i got it, the back looked new and the front were so-so. So now rotated them last year with 35k on the clock, so that the good ones are on the front and the bad ones are on the back. The car still runs like new with 37 1/3k on it. It just making me mad that all of this is happening after the warranty is up. I told my mother to help me pop for the extend one, but nooo the car is fine.
The money came today to get my grill fixed and my mirrors fix $450. But the check is made out to Pontiac and my mother. I thought I would be able to keep 225 for myself, and the the work for my self. ohh well

Ok i did some homework and i see that i'm not the only one with this problem. has anybody did the work them selfs? All i see is a I paid $300,I paid $200. I know that the back lifter on my drivers windows broke. Now is it better that just get that part (lesser money) or get a new regulator (more money). And a little how-to on changing the both parts would be nice. Me taking it to the dealer or a fix-it shop is out of the question. We are saving up money to get the LIM fixed on the malibu. money is tight.

Well i ask the dealer when i was there if they sold the those parts and they said "not no more" :wtf: Said i would have to get a new regulator ($300). I look him in the eyes and said bull :shit: He also said he has not even heard of the recall that will be happening. And he is over the fix-it department. I wish that there was more than one pontiac dealer around here.

My driver side window is like this too. :magus: I took it apart and found the plastic piece on the L shaped metal bracket was broken. I took it to my pontiac dealer and they do not sell just that piece or even the bracket. You have to buy the whole regulator with the piece in it. Well, I said :off: and bought some good 2 part plastic epoxy since I had all the pieces that broke. They are curing right now and will probably let it cure for another day or two just to make sure it is really set.
Is this the problem with everyone's regulators or is it actually the regulator not functioning properly?? I suppose GM has us by the gonads so we are forced to buy the complete regulator not just a piece. :magus:
EDIT: A good personal friend is the one who was helping my at my dealer. He searched for about 15 minutes for the part then got a brand new regulator out and showed me the piece comes with the whole thing.

my window regulator broke like a week after I got the car (used 28-29k miles on it). Under warranty thankfully, but it seems like almost everyone's window regulators die near warranty time. Probably costs them 20 bucks to replace, they charge you 300
If it costs 300 bucks, it shouldn't break like that. Crooks I tell you.

What is the clip for? Does it clip onto the window? I am just wondering if this is the piece I need. I don't need the clip that goes under the wondow but the clip on the L-shaped bracket.
Does anyone know where a parts diagram can be found (besides the dealer)?

That's a rip off, 300, I have a 2 door and had to but the whole set up cause they said they didn't sell the pieces indivisually. BUt I only paid 160 for it new, I say this cause at a salvage yard, they wanted 150 for a used. Get this though, the dealer only pay 145 for the set up, and charges you 250 for it, plus labor if they do it,,300+ RIP OFF. I did it myself, not hard at all, just make sure you keep the window up if you decide to do it. Also, if that plastic is already broken, don't use the window anymore, it's just a matter of time before the whole window falls down, mines did, luckily it didn't brake. If your not sure how it look, the dealer should take it out for you to see, they did for me, I told them what I needed, they said buy the whole thing. Really sucked.
