I'm going to be getting the AAS body kit and after it's put on I'm going to repaint it. It's black right now and I'm going to keep it black, whats the average cost of a paint job and would it be any more expensive to paint it a different color? I really want yellow but if it's moor $ than I'm just going to stick with black.

no
Get an air compressor if you dont have one
nice paint gun with all the filters n stuff to remover moisure exc, get the spot filler, some fiber glass, fiber glass spot filler, fill primer non sandable primer, base coat clear coat and the additives that are 5:1 ratio
If you take it to some place to be painted your going to need to do some body work to it, I had to mod my kit for the 99 i had to add fiber glass to some stuff and do some modding to get it to fit/look right
i dont know if a paint place will do that.

I already have a shop to install the kit and then after it's on I'm going to take it somewhere else to get painted. The whole car.

no offense, but if your spending the money...why dont u get a show quality kit....the aas kit isnt a perfect fit according to the other guy who installed it on his 96-98...plus the front has these huge SE grills which look ridiculous, if i were you, i would get the aed kit while its on sale, and just get the kit painted instead of the whole car...i bet you anything you would be much happier w/ your car....

Has anybody out there got there car painted lately, how much did it cost?
To get the top half of my car (the sides above the ribs, roof, hood, and trunk) it was about $1000, I'd say probably about $1500-$1700, but cost of living is higher in Sacramento then here, so it might be more but shouldn't be much more than $2000. Best thing would be just call a shop and ask "How much to paint a Grand Am and a body kit yellow?"

... to be blunt, it doesn't really matter what it costs as long as you LIKE it :)

Well you know the old saying "You get what you pay for." The less you spend the less you'll get, and with paint jobs it doesn't get any more simple than that. Cheep paint jobs usually don't get decent prep work, tape jobs, or wet sanding. And without those three key elements the paint job will look like trash. Spraying color only accounts for about 10% of the outcome.
A good paint job will usually start around $2000, all depends on supplies used, time spent, and the shop you bring it to. Shoot, my friend spent that much getting his Aprillia Mile painted, but the results are nothing below prefection. If your having a body guy installing the kit as him of local places that he recomends. Ask that shop for references to see their shop and quality of their work. One thing you do not want is your car sprayed in a dark, dirty, unkept, cluttered shop.
And about the body kit not fitting. When we were smoothing, shaving, and filling a '95 Civic the body guy we were working with told us that just about every body kit he has installed never fits perfectly out of the box. Same goes for fiberglass hoods, no matter what they say, 'ready for paint', they never are and still require prep. I don't know how the AAS fits on your bodystyle, but I have heard and seen photos of numerous 'insert another GA body kit here' brand body kits fitting like trash on '99+ GAs. Shoot even the stock replacement '91-'92 rocker panels purchased for 'ProjectZ' didn't bolt right onto the car. Proof positive that they all need a little help.
And about painting it yourself you might want to pass on that idea. That is unless you have a ample ammount of time on your hands. Even with the right tools painting a car is not something you learn over night, and it's not something you want to do for the first time on your pride and joy. A first paint job should be done on a beater or a car you don't care about, like a friends car while they are sleeping. lol
And I agree with Kelly, as long as you like it then thats all the justification you need.

one way to save a little money is to do some of the prep work yourself. sanding is easy and you could do that. also removing some things such as mirriors and spoilers. trust me thepaint job will look much better is molding is removed and painted separatly. just some simple stuff. go to a shop and ask what you could do to prepare the car.

Well...I'll have my AAS in a little less than a month. Already payed for, just awaiting shipment. I already talked to a reputable body shop around here for pricing and they said they'd paint and install the kit for around $800. The also use Dupont paint and they gaurantee any work they do. If any thing goes wrong down the line, they fix it for free. If the paint quality isn't as good as I like it, they do it again for free. Not bad if you ask me...

Maaco sucks..... Car Audio Dave's car looks like sh*t (I have seen it in person) They didn't prep the bumper clip or the mirrors at all, just painted right over it and the paint is peeling cuz it didn't stick.

No. My friend spent $1000 for Maccoo's better paint job and it had about a half dozen runs in it along with paint and primer overspray all over it.
