I have a question.. if I put a cover on my front bumper and leave my front plate in the windshield could they give me a ticket?
Old Guy
12-30-2003, 02:00 PM
They "probably" could but I would guess that they would tell you to mount it and just give you a warning.
I have a friend who is a State Highway Patrolman and he said that the front plate is there not only for identification but also as a safety measure since it's reflective so if you forget to put your lights on other cars can still see you.
I've been fooling around with a retractible front bracket like some of the street rods have on them, but there's not much room to work with.

I heard a rumor this summer that as of 1/1/4 front plates were no longer required, but I haven't seen any deifinitive information. Guess I'll have to check Oplates.com on Friday...

I got my 96 Achieva in 1997 and just got my 02 GE in August.
The front plate bracket got hit five days after I got the Achieva and it's still in the trunk six years later. No front plate on the GA either. Never got stopped in NY yet.

Nice.... and I hope Ohio DOES get rid of front plates... cuz in a month I may have to register in Ohio since I live here, and I am NOT putting on a front plate... it ruins the whole look of the car... I'll get ticketed before I do it

For whatever its worth, they require a front plate in Wisconsin, but I have yet to put the front plate on either of my 2 Grand Am's. Actually, I dont really know where they are. I dont think it would be very noticable if you put the cover on, since you have a silver car. At quick glance, it would look like its there.

OLDGUY, i'm in Medina every thursday night for JoJo's 15 cent wings and never have any trouble! but i guess it's different if you live there
LargeFish

Well I just visited Oplates and no notice about a change to a single plate... Only thing there is about two different fee increases... lol... And Nchill, a lot of communities are tough on the rule, most require proof of installation after the first ticket and a few burbs here are known to tow and impound for a second offense!!!

As LargeFish said...it depends on where you live.
Black99GT3 - You're just basically passing through Medina, drive it all the time and you'd be sporting a nice white front plate just like I do.
Guys drive through here all of the time with dark window tint too......but I know from the $150.00 ticket I got ....that doesn't fly if you're resident. Guess that's the price you gotta pay to live in "Yuppieville" ;)

I am going to keep my licenses plate in the windshield.. They can see it well enough to read so they will just have to get over it.. and I'll play dumb if they pull me over.. stupid ohio laws..

Probably a wise thing to do....next time you're out cruisin' check out the homes in The Reserve and Fox Meadows.....Prices start at a cool $450K...and that's the small ones...
I really do wish it would return to "Hicksville" though.....I liked it much better when I could get across town in 5 minutes!!

A few year ago he'd be correct......but now that they built that monstrosity that they call a High School it's gotten pretty bad, and there's a new levy going up for vote on our next ballot.
But.......regardless of anything said.....other than Jo Jo's and Paul's Pub, Medina is pretty far from Hicksville.

haha! yeah jojo's gives me a bad impression of medina, but hey you can't beat 15 cent wings!! i heard about the high school they built..now i hope highland works on getting a new football field so when we come to their place every other year it isn't a mud pit that favors their wing-t offense :D

i havent had a plate on my car since i bought it. i bought it in indiana. had holes for a bracket but no bracket. never put it on. it has been 2 years and i have lived in the toledo and the dayton/springfield area now. never been pulled over for it. i HAVE been pulled over for numerous other offenses but they never once mentioned that i need a plate. if they ask, all i am gonna tell em is "see the primer, i have had body work done and I am in the process of making a bracket". hehe
