We have alot of people on this forum with great Photoshop talent.

Lets see some of your ideas for the '04 Dash Plaque.

Here are the requirements.

Needs to about 600 x 370 pixels
Saved at 300 dpi
Other info included...
GAOC, ClubECM, Albany NY, June 11-13 2004.

Now lets see what you got. :D

I don't understand what we're making here, I may just be stupid though but could you elaborate on what you mean by plaque?

Thats a small metal or plastic plate given out at auto shows and gatherings. It has the event, date, place and club logo. Double sided tape on the back to stick them on the dash somewhere.

Common demensions are three inches wide by inch and a half tall.

I like the second one JMILLS did myself. Only suggestion is less blank space. Maybe have the GAOC logo go all the way across the top, larger date and ClubECM logo. :)

hey Pre: the one u made up, its great! but its too busy. think of how expensive it'll be for the printers to do that and it going on a little plaque, things will smudge and be blurry...know what i mean?

JMILLS: i like both :) the first one is great also...plus i think it works cuz those are the two best guys :D the second one...think the second is also good. the is a pic of the first GAOC/ECM meet..i think it represents :)
(dont think im being bossy cuz im not, im just puttin gmy two cents in.....im a graphic art major and ive worked with things like this....ill leave the judging to shawn and kelly..:D)

Alright, just a few comments here to help you.

BTW feel free to ignore me, I have no artistic talent whatsoever :)

I think the examples we've seen 'till now are nice but they have an "amateur" feel to them. I think it comes from the use of both blue and red.

For the ECM logo you could try to take Leanne's signature image and make it a shade of red instead of purple. Maybe make it the very bottom (1/4 would seem to be good) of the card all the way across. For the top 3/4 you could have a very light red GA (or pink, take Kelly's car :)) as a background with the club logo and website in dark red and "Albany, NY, June 11th-13th 2004" in black.

Whatcha think?

JMILLS
01-07-2004, 02:46 PM
There is criticism, but that just hurt! "Amatuer" I'll have you know that I have been designing Dash Plaques now for .... almost a week! I think I deserve to be called proffesional.:D

Well now after that rant. The reason I have kept mine the way they are is to try and stay with last years plaque. I think it would be nice to see a general progression through the plaques.

As for the color choice, it was a hard one and had one major factor. I am very colorblind :) which makes it hard for me to pick out colors that work with each other, let alone know what colors I picked.

Bring on the comments and suggestions. If there are more people that think they look too "amateur" then I will change my style and try to go with something a little more clean-cut and modern.

If anyone wants more 'ECM' logos I have plenty floating around to work with, just let me know.

The main thing I don't want to see is alot of blank space.
I didn't put the border on last years, the printer did that, and the white was supposed to be bare metal. Now I know if I want bare metal that I need to make it transparent.

eh... I'll take a stab at it I guess. :P I just need some time. Is there a deadline?

Oh... and John, where you said " Needs to about 600 x 370 pixels Saved at 300 dpi" shouldn't the image be a little bigger than that? The plaques are a little bigger than 2" x 1.25" aren't they?

For me it doesn't matter at this point as I usually start off with LARGE files then resize.

And if you could mail me all the large ClubECM logos you have that would be great... yeah. :)

hey 3DeeJay...that looks great! but see that white spot up in the left corner...yea coudl u possibly put the "hosted by Club ECM" in that spot and have the word "hosted" upright so ppl ecould read it better? we are used to reading from left to right...not whenits sideways like that...but over all good :) jsut need that white space filled :)

angelluv98

i think that something needs to be put in that blank spot... maybe a pontiac symbol or something.... but i think the hosted by ECM part looks good where it is :)

This may be slightly off topic and mostly addressed to TA^Guy
I assume, but I am wondering what process was used to produce the dash plates. My parents operated a substantial awards & engraving business here in Nebraska and design most of the dash plates for the region. They offer full color sublimation and I saw that the plates were appartently not "waterproof". I know with the process they have they would be and I can find out pricing or if you want to forward some cost info, I can mention my association with the club and he may be able to offer a fair deal.

It took a few days but I tried to do the skyline of downtown Albany's Empire State Plaza.
I think it'll still need a border.

I really like the whole design. If I was going to change anything one I would add the actual date and I would also make the "Albany, New York" be able to be read a little it more. It might just be me (color blind) but it blends in and dissapears to me.

Gimli
01-25-2004, 07:34 AM
I like it John but I find it just a little bit too busy. Maybe without the yellow in the background?

I agree that the "Albany, New York" blends in too much with the background.

umm one question...what the heck is that bowl looking thing in the background?? over i like it :)

TA^Guy
01-25-2004, 10:30 AM
With "Albany New York" embossed and not a actual color I was trying to keep it from being to busy and cluttered. Same reason I just put '2004' and not the entire date. Without the color of the sunset it just doesn't have the feel of a skyline.and just looks bland. If I get some time I'll play around and make another one.

Katie, the bowl in the skyline is 'The Egg (http://www.theegg.com)'. It's a convention center located in the empire state plaza. They do alot of performing arts type stuff. Heres a photo of it,
http://www.theegg.org/images/directions1.jpg
The taller one, second from the left is supposed to be the Corining tower, and the other four are the Agency buildings.
