I ofcourse had to ask at the auto show about the G6 vs GA thing, and I was told (but an assemble working for the GA), while sitting in the Fusion orange dream car :D, umm.. she told me that the GA will not be discontinued as long as there is demand for it.. So basically they will phase in the G6, if it takes off and the GA drops, then GA will be done..
Soo see what happens....
but that is sorta good news.. for now! :-D

I see the Grand Am's lasting another year or so then the G6,or whatever the new era will be,coming in.GM/Pontiac will try to sell as many as they can and from that they'll see, sales, and decide from there,2005 being the last year i think is just a sudden death to me,just to soon still....Or maybe this will be the last year and G6 coming in for the 2006 line of cars.

I want to know who that lady at the show worked for
Anyway, as far as I know, the GA is done with production after April of '04. Which would be the end run of '04 and there would be no 05's. I've not heard of this "public demand" deal.
The G6 is on a new platform and built out of a new plant. The current GA plant is being converted. The new G6 will be built 10 mins from my house (just a fun side note) But, it leads to the point that GM has other plans for the extremly high production plant there in Lansing (it produces over 250 cars a day...more than any other plant in the world) so I hardly think GM is going to sit on such a gold mine of a plant by keeping it open for a few stray GA's. The Malibu is already on the new platform. The Alero is saying bye bye, and that's all that's produced out of that plant.
That's my take on it. But I'll have to confirm it.

Actually it's already been confirmed that the GAGT will be built for model year 2005, just like the old Malibu is still being built as the Chevy Classic for car fleets.
There is nothing confirmed yet for the Lansing plants and they keep them open to please the workers union.

Most likely what GM will do with this is increase output at the facility near the end of the run to sell as 2005 models thats what they did when saturn switched from their own platform to the delta GM platform with the new ION. To say the GA is going to last beyod 2005 just wouldnt be logical at all on GM's side. We may all like the styling of our cars but that doesnt change the fact that the grand am still is outdated. the n-body platform must die for GM to stay competitive. Now dont get me wrong I'm not saying the G6 was the answer to the GA's replacment, (because I do love the unique styling of my GA) but it had to happen.I just was hoping that they would have come out with something more pontiac and not give into the average everday car.

Adam, forgive my ignorance here, but has GM announced any formal name for the G6? Also, what is to say that the G6 cannot be called a Grand Am as well? After all, there is a huge difference betwen the 1973 RWD Grand Am and the 2003 FWD Grand Am. But...they are BOTH Grand Ams...

GM has confirmed that the production model will be called G6 as well.

G6 is it's official name. At least that's the way the car has been badged. According to GM marketing G6 is simply
"G" with six letters following
G "randam" RANDAM = 6 letters :D
GM with the introduction of 10 "new" vehicles for 2005 is wanting to change the opinon of the American car buyer. They're hoping to change American stereotypes and have new associations with new cars. People hear Grand Am, and some think , leaking upper and lower gaskets, bad breaks and shotty electrical. People hear G6, and it doesn't have a reputation yet. They can't associate any problem with it.
It's up to GM to put the quality out there so that the G6 starts off on the right foot. As well as their other vehicles :D

People hear Grand Am they think Grand Ma. lol
I heard awhile back that they were going to put the sc/t convertible concept into limited production for '05 and beef up the power of the 3400 ram air and then it will be phased out towards the end of the year.

Well, if you count the 1996-1998 Grand Am run as a generation, this would be it's sixth generation. I really don't get the G6 name either.. I'm sure it's just a marketing gimick to make it sound more 'european'.
