Hey all, just found this forum the other day whilst looking for information on my newest purchase, an 89 Grand Am 2.0L turbo. got it for a good price even. sadly it needed some engine work including a new headgasket, starter and some minor head work.

anyways i get that all back together and now I'm having trouble with the fuel pump not turning on when key is turned on, as well as the injectors not firing when the car is turning over. I'm thinking it might be a relay as the fuse in the fuse box links the 2 togheter(alas that fuse is absolutely fine).

what i was hoping someone would know is which relay(if any) is the one that controls the fuelpump/injectors, or what else might it be that could cause this problem?? any help would be nice.

Another interesting quirk is that the boost gauge on the car pegs full deflection as soon as you turn the key into the on position. it didnt do this before we took the head off. should it level out when started(which i havent been able to do yet) or is this another problem??

thanks again

With the injector the best thing i can say is make sur ethe filters are all clean and that the pump is actually working .

As for teh boost guage wen you turn it over dose it spike the set back 2 zero or stay spiked.

And welcome to the fourm hope you find out what you need here.

Welcome to one of there rarest clubs around. Hope you find the place usefull.

I'm not sure where the relay is. I ordered a factory service manual but it's not here yet. The relay for the fuel pump/injectors will have four wires:

pink/black:...............power from fuse
gray:........................power out
dark green/white.....signal from ecu
black/white..............ground

If I get the FSM soon I'll get more info.

Well i figured it out heh, turns out that one of the ground straps had all but dissappeared. needed to replace it and the car started....buuut of course there is more to it then that.

Car started and ran like crap, messed with timing with no luck. pull out the compression tester and find that #1 cyl has 0 compression!!

turns out that when installing the cam housing one of the rocker arms got bumped a tiny bit outta position, so whne it started it fell out and left the exhaust valve Hanging open! Great. so now i need to pull the cam housing off again, compress the srpring(as the valve keepers fell out too) and reinstall it again :(. Worst luck ever. hoepfully things go better in the future
