Hello to everyone,
I have this problem, my 92 3.3 V6 Grand AM has a 1st to 2nd shifting problem, I have to overwork the engine in order to make the transmission to shift, and I've pull the 26 and 27 codes from the ECM, the fluid level is OK. I've been reading about those codes, some says that if the car runs ok, not to pay attention, but my car isn't running ok, so what can I do?
And another thing, I've located an unplugged harness, below the power steering pump, but I haven't located where it connects, there are no connectors or harnesses hanging. I'll really apreciatte if someone with the same car as me could check if he/she have the same unplugged harness.
Thanks in advance y saludos!!

you found an unplugged harness below the p/steering pump? you better describe the connector. what color is it? the is a connector that goes to the pump and the vechile speed sensor is further down below the pump. if your vechile speed sensor is disconnected, that could possibly be your problem

How many miles are on your car? It may be time to have your transmission replaced or rebuilt.

I have a 93 GA with the 3.3L....and I have the same thing....i have a red plug below the power steering pump that is unplugged.....my car is running fine....I think it might have to do with an option that our cars dont have.....

that RED connector goes to a valve on the p/steering pump. if yours has it. it's probably for the variable effort steering option which my car happens to have. if you don't have this option, it probably remains disconnceted.
yet look on your option tag, which is on the spare tire cover. i believe the option is NV7. maybe someone has put the wrong pump in or you have the option but never switche the valve over to the new pump. which might trigger a code.
good luck.

A 26,27,28 means you have unplugged the TCC connector. The 27 and 28 are gear switches that the computer uses to tell what gear its in so that it can give the best fuel/air mix. Some 3spd trans do not have two gear switches but one, usually second. As I said before All 3T40(T125C) are not the same. If the TCC was to code the actual code is I believe 33 or 32.
VES- unplugging this feature will not change drivability of the car. This feature at low rpm's allows the fluid to flow at maximum flow. But as the car speeds up the steering stiffens for a more responsive steering at higher speeds(More of a road feel) without it the car will have maximum power assist at all times.
(My Skylark has the same plug but just hangs out, as that vehicle trim did not have it optioned. My GAGT however does have the option)
There is a EVO (Electronic Variable Orffice) that is connected at the bottom of the pump and before the High pressure side.
If by chance your harness to the TCC is plugged in, then you need to get the trans to a doctor. But from what you say, overworking the engine sound like your trying to say the trans is slipping. When was the last fluid change for it?
