First off, where I live is currently snowy and very cold. I noticed a few times recently that my left caliper was smoking after backing into my driveway. Is this a problem?

Yes

I would check for sticky slider bolts and/or a caliper that is not retracting.

Yeah...thats the slider(not the caliper mounting ) bolts for sure.

not nessesary it is a problem, i know its snowing right now, so i take that u dont race right now, but in the summer when i race on a road course with a lot of breaking and accelerating my brakes smoke too and theres nothing wrong with them.

but in your case i think it is like the guys said slider bolts or the piston itself seized.

also, if you didnt change a break pad for a long time and the piston goes past certain point it will not retract even though it is not seized, it happens just because the piston has to travel farther that it is designed to - caused by worn out break pad.
