Today when I was on my way home from PetSmart, with my dogs in the car I got hit by some stupid 17 year old kid who didn't yield the right of way. I was on the street passing by a gas station when the kid decides to pull out of the parking lot while my car was right in front of him. Banged it up pretty bad, I wanted to kick his ass so bad but at the same time I wanted to cry. His insurance better not dick me around or I will be highly upset. Here are a few pics of the damage.

Tina, I am sorry to hear that. I just have one question. WTF is up with people??? :2up: Dammit, just today we also have MikeNice get his car banged up too! People just DO NOT KNOW WTF they are doing when they get on the roads! PAY ATTENTION, DAMMIT!!! :magus:
Oh, for all our younger drivers that hate graduated licensing, you can thank the scum like the one that hit Tina's car for that...

Yah Don it really sucked. The feeling was horrible. My worst fear was if my dogs were ok. I know thats pretty sad but they are like my children, so it was my first reaction to check on them. They are doing fine just a little shaken up like I was. Good thing I was going under 25 miles an hour and he was just pulling out of a parking lot. If I wouldn't have had time to react he would have hit me directly in the passenger door and would have nailed Eric. I don't know what I would have done if Eric or my dogs got hurt. :(

Spike, I wonder what Tina thinks of this kid...
But I feel my definition is correct. Why? He was inattentive of others and only cared about himself. His actions cost Tina an unnecessary headache. Her personal property was damaged by somebody with no respect for others. Why do I say he has no respect? Because if he did, he would have paid more attention when he got behind the wheel.
People seem to think driving is a right, not a privilege. They feel that they alone are the only ones entitled to drive. And sadly, Tina has to be the victim of his lack of judgement. :(
Tina, as I mentioned earlier, it is good to hear that you are posting what you did rather than a family member telling us you were hurt. Things can be replaced. Lives Cannot...

Tina sorry to hear about your car. Atleast everyone with you (including your puppies) are ok. Insurance companies are the worst. We pay for our vehicles to be 'covered' but when something happens they don't want to pay or they pay and they drop your coverage. Like Chris Rock says, 'Insurance doesn't insure you anything. They should change the name to In case sh!t happens.'
My suggestion is to bring it to a few good body shops for estimates and then mail the two highest priced ones to his company. Good luck getting it fix.

Hey Don, get over it. People make mistakes. It was only a non injury minor traffic accident. You act as if he hit her and took a dump on her hood then shot her.

I do agree, 'sh!t happens' even to those of us that careful, that is why its called a accident.
Last time it snowed good I almost got hit pulling out of side street because the snow banks were to high to see around.
But on the other hand alot kids don't take driving seriously, it's not a right, it's a privilege. I do agree with Don that these are the reasons they have graduated licenses. I also think that dirvers licenses aren't hard enough to aquire. I used to think every state should retest drivers after the age of say 60. But I really can't believe the morons out there so I think they should retest drivers everytime they renew their license.

I'm 17... I've made mistakes like this one. though not resulting in a traffic accident. my state does not have a graduated licenseing system either. but your statment makes it sound as though your the perfect driver? Do you have a perfectly clean driving record Don? no tickets, no accidents, or even a near accident because you weren't paying attention at one point or another. I don't think anyone does.
I don't mean to be insulting, but to be very blunt your statment make you sound ignorant, and down right in-tolorent to anyone who is learning or is new to driving.

When a person is in control of a hunk of steel that weighs 3000lbs, I do not think that there is much room to accept, let alone tolerate, "mistakes." Consider the facts. The weather, as I understand it, was decent. There were no obstructions to his view. So...how could he even not see a car coming? I mean, I really am puzzled... As I stated, I shudder at the thought of it being an innocent pedestrian or motorcycle/bicycle rider.

I guess John I still remember the notion being pounded into my head in Driver's Ed that there is no such thing as an accident. They all can be avoided.

I always did my very best to drive safely. Yes, I did get on the gas pedal but I was sure to be in control at all times. Not only so I would not injure an innocent person, but because I spent a good amount of money on a car. If I were to wreck it, I may as well have used that money to start a fire...
John, I have long since felt that we need European driver licensing standards.

Those are but a few sites that explain how our driver training sucks.
Ok, I have not gone to a Skip Barber school, but I was rigorously trained by my father and two uncles. One uncle is a truck driver so he told me the PROPER way to drive around a tractor trailer rig. I also spent much time in empty parking lots covered with snow. I learned a LOT about snow driving. I know how to make use of both FWD and RWD cars in the snow as I have driven both. And I knock on my desktop when I say I have NEVER caused an accident in nearly 20 years of driving. I have been involved in two, but both were not my fault.
What is troublesome is that we all should be able to get from point A to point B without some stupid clown ruining our property or health. I guess others' rights to act dumb and selfish preclude our rights to be safe... :shake:

Oh no offense taken at all. But where I have issues is with those...that will NOT LEARN!!! :magus: There is nothing wrong with being new at driving. We all were at one time. But...you have to ALWAYS remember what you have learned. You MUST pay attention at all times. When my cell phone rings, I let the voice mail pick it up and pull off to the side of the road.
I learned on a manual transmission vehicle that, in its day, was quite powerful. I learned CONTROL. My post above goes into more detail. I do not hate any person that is a new driver. I just have issues with those that do not devote their full attention to the road. Heh, too bad I did not have my videocamera handy at the time or else I could have taped some cool stud drive his car into the LEFT HAND SIDE ditch as he was too busy watching some girl's ass wiggling down sidewalk. Now...can you imagine if a bicyclist was coming the same way? No, I only have no tolerance for those that just do not pay attention to their driving. That is how innocent people get hurt or killed. I really need to mount a video camera in my car so I can get footage of the clowns out there in front of me.

I'm not trying to get on your case Don, but by your own admission you have been "on the gas pedal". I interpret that as speeding and acting irresponsibly. Something can happen in a split second, considerably faster than you can react to a situation such as a kid running out in the street to retrieve a ball or a puppy getting out of the yard to chase a cat.
I myself sometimes drive irresponsibly and so far have been lucky. There was a time that I was driving home from a car show and hit a dog at freeway speed and crushed the front of my first body kit. The dog came from out of nowhere and there was no way possible for me to avoide it. I felt terrible for the dog and anger toward the owner. But it was an "accident".

I do, although I'm only 20, I think this helps give credit to what he's trying to say.
Just because the kid is 17, doesn't mean he shouldn't be FULLY aware of what's goin on around him.
"learning" to drive is not an excuse to hit someone.
If I get hit, and the cop claims "no fault" I'll probably be jailed for beating the shit out of the kid that hit me.

I tend to agree with Don most of the time...and I do here as well. Yes, things happen that shouldn't. I've been at fault (never for an accident) for doing things I shouldn't. However, we all are human, and none of us are perfect. It was quite obvious he could have seen her, from the point of impact on her car. He pure and simple wasn't paying attention. To pass it off as anything else, is stupid, arrogant and ignorant.
Tina.... sorry to hear about your car. I sincerely hope everything works out for you!

GhettoSS, first off, your name is Don as well, correct? It would make typing so much easier! :D
But this is why I am getting on his case. What did he say to Tina? "I did not see you." HOW MANY TIMES do we hear that??? I am not getting on the fact that he is a new driver. Just that...HE DID NOT PAY ATTENTION!!! New or experienced, YOU HAVE TO BEWARE AND BE AWARE of your surroundings. Just ask our resident motorcyclists. They are ALWAYS scanning the surroundings. And Don, I have heard "I did not see you" from ALL levels of drivers! I remember when my dad was hit some time ago. The at fault driver said "I did not see you" to which my father calmly replied "well, were you looking for me?" He shut up really fast...
The graduated licensing comment was made because simply put, the mistakes of the younger drivers not paying attention to their driving and/or not respecting the car is what brought it about. If younger drivers did everything they could to learn as well as they could and if all took driving seriously, there would be no such thing.
My comment about getting on the gas is to be taken two ways. Yes, I do speed. What is a nitrous oxide cylinder for? Trunk ballast? :D But...I have always felt that if I want to drive fast, DO IT WHEN THE ONLY LIFE YOU RISK IS YOUR OWN!! And that entails spraying on an expressway with no other cars around or with just ONE next to you. I DO NOT SPRAY in a residential area.
Also as far as getting on the gas, it was also to learn just how much more I had to brake at higher speeds. So during my learning years (btw, I feel good drivers NEVER stop learning), I made sure to slowly learn the limits of my car. And better to do it in a semi-controlled environment than when it is too late.

wow, that suxs glad to hear noone was hurt and I know how everyone feels I have 2 lil sisters one is 18 and has had her license for a yr now.and to be honest will all of u guys she scares the crap out of me.she's been already in 1 major accident with involved her new car that my mom bought her and 2 other cars.and she hit other cars I think cuz her front bumper and rear bumper are all messed up.and and my other sister just got her permit and she scares me cuz she has to drive my car MY Baby cuz my parents have trucks and she scared to drive them and plus my parents won't let her.but I mean like i let my younger sister who has her pemit drive my car in the fall and she was very close to sidewalks cuz she was very scared of the on commming cars.and when I had my old car 2 of my younger sister's friends just got their license's and i was comming home from work and I was just about to pull in my driveway when I see this girl flying around the corner and she smashed right into my car.she was 17yrs old and had about 4 other ppl in the car when in mass ur not suppose to have anyone in ur car when u 1st get ur license for 6 months.she completly pissed me off and i filpped on her and all she could care about was if my lil sister was home? I was LIKE WTF U smash into me and that's all u care about.Im sorry for anyone on this board that might offend anyone but where I live in my town and surrounding towns new kids with their license's have their parents buy them BRand new spanking cars and they just don't CARe They just don't think of all the other drivers that are on the road.and when they hit you they always seemed to make a lame excuses for anything.like I was taught how to drive when I was 12 just going around a block or up and down my driveway and Im 21 now and have been driving for a long time I've never had any accidents that I've caused and I've had bad experience cuz in my old car everytime that was hit it was by a young kid who just got their license's so to rant.

Well I got some quotes on how much it is going to cost to fix. Both places said right around $1500. Need a new passenger door, it doesn't open or close right any more and a new rear quater panel and the molding. I found out that this is the little punks 2nd accident this month. I am really pissed off too because his insurance is dicking me around. Been trying to get a hold of someone and have not talked to a real person in 4 days and their closest office is in AZ. GRRRR!!!!

thing is i dont see how the GDL would help here. i mean really what are we learning by not being allowed to drive between 12:30 and 5:00? i have no problem with the GDL here in iowa as i have put up with it for 10 months now and as long as the next two months go smoothly i will have my full licence in two months.

I made it about 3 years before they started that GDL garbage here. Frankly one of the best times for me was late night on Fri and Sat. when I was 16 and 17 out cruising around with my friends till 1am. Light traffic, less distractions, and plenty of opportunity to put some lengthy time behind the wheel developing and honing my vehicle control skills and my awareness. Of course prior to that my parents also made me chauffer them around once I turned 14 and got my learners permit so I got plenty of supervised time behind the wheel too.

I couldn't agree with Magus more, and I for one do have a spotless driving record. I've been involved in 3 incidents of vehicle collision. 2 were completely not my fault. Rear ended once by some old codger who didn't slow down soon enough at a stoplight in heavy snow and hit me at about 20mph. Side swiped once by some girl in too big of a hurry who blew around me while I was waiting to let another vehicle come through from the opposing direction on a congested residential street lined with parked cars and construction equipment. She side swiped me and nearly hit the van that was comming head on.
The third involved me bumping into the rear of one of my highschool classmates on the way to a movie. Icy as hell, and the city had sanded most of the intersections except a few of the downtown ones. I was going approx. 7mph and was about 50ft behind him. He didn't get stopped until he got into halfway into the intersection where there was sand and I couldn't stop at all because of the sheet of ice on the road (which also had a mild slope down hill towards the intersection). I "kissed" bumpers with him. No damage to either vehicle. I was driving appropriately for the conditions and couldn't have done anything to avoid the collision.

yeah i know how you feel..granted, i am only 20 and never have gotten pulled over for a speeding ticket or anything, so i consider myself a good driver..but over the summer some 16 year old hit me because of pure laziness (didn't look both ways before he went)...didn't we learn to look both ways in safety town?!? but i got a whole new front end, so i guess it was kind of worth it, other than the hassles of all that comes on the side of getting in the accident

Its just one more reason why kids should not be allowed to drive. I guess its partially the way they drive;
Pedal to the Metal, Stereo Up, Head down, Doin the "Gangsta Lean",Ears and eyes SHUT! Personally i dont think kids should be able to get their licenses til the age of 18 and even then they still arent that safe.
