I was wondering, since the GXP Bonneville has the v8 now, is anyone thinking of doing an engine transplant, and the other neccessary items needed to accept it.:blake:

You'd be looking at a snot load of work.

Engine, trans, computers, and just about everything else under the sun. You'd be looking at 10 grand easily. Plus body fabrication to get the thing to fit :)

nah, you'd prolly have to spend at least $100G's to do it right :roll2:

Depends on what Camaro your looking at.

A 3rd generation has tons of room under the hood, even with a V8. With a V6 you can get in and stand in front of the motor.

On a 4th generation the cab forward design makes it appear that it has less room, but that is only because the windshield sits above some of the engine compartment to give the interior a larger feel to it.

A V8 mounted transverse might not fit. All depends on the motor and transaxle used. One mounted for RWD would work best but there most likely will be some modifications to the firewall.

i am kind of saving up for the v8 swap right now, putting away a little extra every month into another account. Will take a while maybe a year or two, I know it wont be cheap. There is a cadillac engine thats 4.9 or something like that makes something like 300+ horsies I heard so I'll see if I can find someone who can install that into mine. Just its really hard to find an expert who knows about cars and engine swaps, most mechanics nowdays are clueless until they read ecu codes and engine swaps are way over their head.

uhh why dont you just drop in the 3800 wiht a supercharger? it woudl be cheaper and it would make just as much power as the one yoru thinking about.. especially if the super is an aftermarket one. Hell man.. even the GA GTX or GX or something like that makes 275 hp with nearly 300 ft-lbs of torque on just the 3400 engine and a supercharger. My advice.. keep the 3400 or put in a 3800, it will be much cheaper to do it that way. I know one company (fogot the name) spent over 100 000$ on putting in a V8 in a GA.. not exactly petty cash if you ask me.

i've been wondering this same question, "what about a v8?"
and oddly enough the only other thing running through my head has been dropping in the sc 3800 that comes with the grand prix gtp. would even that work w/o spending a freak load (or something to that extent)?

thats a good point but if someone wanted to do that for a lot cheap do a swap GTP motor v6 lil bigger supercharged would fit better then the 8 but would love to have the power of an 8:)

I would have to say go with the 3.8 V6 from the Monte Carlo's (92-95 I think is the years) instead of the 3.8 V6 from the Grand Prix. I'm not sure if the mounts are that much different. I would rather have the DOHC of the Monte than the OHC of the Prix. Plus the Monte's engine makes 220 horses N/A while the Prix makes 250 horses S/C'ed. Put the S/C from the Prix on the Monte and I would guess you are looking somewhere around 280 horses.

Thats just my 2 cents though.

So when did they come out with any sort of OHC for the 3.8 (or 3800 if you prefer)? Either DOHC or SOHC? I do not believe one exists. Now are ya thinking the DOHC 3400? If so, not a reliable engine.

Anyway, as with anything, anybody who wants to spend a boat load of money to have a unique car will do so. So there may well be somebody out there willing to put some kind of V8 into a GA.

Maybe it was a 3.4 My buddy owns the car and was talking about it with me the other day. I was 100% sure at the time that he said 3.8 DOHC. Maybe it was a swap or i just miss heard it. Plus what makes the 3.4 such an unreliable engine???

I was reading in car and driver that they're going to be making the Chevy Nomad again. It'll have a turbocharged 2.2 liter ecotec. This is a little off topic for this thread, but it would likely be a pretty simple install for me to get the turbo off of one of them when they get wrecked and put it onto my own GA, right?

The DOHC 3.4 (not the push rod 3.4 that is in use throughout the GM lines) was just a very unreliable engine and a major warranty headache for GM. That's one of the reasons they stopped making it.
