What are the best low pro tires for 17" rims? Im looking for 235-40-17. I want long tread life, good looks and good traction. I looked at different tire places but I havent made any decisions. The average price is about $150-$200. I dont care about the price as much for a good set of tires as long as they last a long time.

You may find it hard to get long tread life from a performance tire. They are soft to increase the traction and handling. Consumer Reports tested performance in the fall of 2003. Find a copy at the library.

I have 235-45-17 on my GA. They are Perilli's that I get from eBay. My MPG dropped from 35 MPG to 30 MPG when I put them on. Consumer Reports said that they have the highest rolling resistence of all the tires tested. I have the stock tires on for the winter and my mileage is between 30 and 32 MPG in the cold.

Im pretty sure that 235s wont fit onto your car without rubbing, I had a 95 GT and the biggest I remember being able to go was 215. You might wanna check that out first.

a 235 tire is a FAT tire and it even rubs on my Camaro so i am willing to bet it will rub on a 98- GA but then again if the profile is different that might change if it rubs also. but as for a good long lasting tire. look for a Goodyear HP. my car has em and they have a really good life rating like 290-300

i suggest a 225, i'm going to try and get those to fit on my 95, when my 17's get here, tirerack said that if i do some test fitting and don't drive on them, if they don't work i can exchange them

235 isn't THAT big. i've got 295/50s :P now that's a chunk of rubber.

cant you go to tirerack.com and check? i know that when you look at rims they have a suggested tire size over on the left hand side. sorry, i'm a few days behind lol

well, after asking many tire places, I bought the 235-40-17, and they fit well, they dont rub, and run really nice. The only problem is they hit the top of the fender-well if I hit a big dip at high speed (70+)

Thanks for the help

if your hitting the top of the fender then obviously you didnt get the right size bud. If you hit a bump at 70 and it does that then how exactly do you think your going to drive on the highway? Thats going to take chunks out of your tire after doing that 10 times and leave little flat spots and your going to feel like your riding in a lumber wagon, but more power to you.

I really like these people that think the biggest honken tires you can fit on your g-ride the better. Thats not true.

What was your stock tire size may I ask?

I just put some 245/40/17 Hankook HRII Ventus from ebay, they are great tires and they fit perfect on 17x8 rims. There is absolutely no rubbing and these tires come out to the stock diameter so you won't have any speedo issues.

hehehehe I also have the hankook ventus HRII. they are good tires, but my speedo is off by 5mph now. If is says im going 60, im going 55. That might be because my factory rims and tires were so much different though
