I opened the passenger side fuse panel in my wifes '01 and saw another antenna wire just laying there not connected to anything. It looks like a factory radio antenna but it's the standard size, not the smaller GM size. It's a male end. What is it? Could it possibly be an XM ready dealie bob or possibly for optional OnStar*?

Tripped me out too Kel. I tugged on it a little and it wasn't going to just pull out either.
I'll get a pic up as soon as she gets home. That's liike 15 minutes.

Hmmmm ... did you check to make sure there was an actual antenna plugged into your radio?

Hey Kel, go look in your car for this thing. It kinda lays down along the bottom edge of the panel.

The radio works fine. It's all factory.

I'd look myself as well. Could Possibly be for XM, however I'm not even sure it was an option on 01. Also, GM never put onstar in a GA. I'd make sure everything was hooked up correctly.

Ther's no slack in the wire so there's no way it would reach the stereo. It's also larger than the GM style antenna lead. It's like a full size one. You know for after market stereo installs you have to get the antenna adapter because GM antennas are smaller in diameter. This one is the standard size diameter.

AAAAH HAAAA !! Check this out. My curiosity was really getting the best of me so I did some investigating. I was fishing with my hand under the dash on that side and founfd the antenna that I was seeing and followed it to a harness that was going toward the stereo. That meant that it had to plug in somewhere in that area near the kick panel. I pulled the kick panel off and there it was, bigger than life. That lead I was seeing plugged into the antenna wire coming from the mast. It was like it was never plugged in from the factory. There's no way that it could have been kick loose because it's behind the kick panel and the previous owner (she's the second) never did anything to the car. Weird huh? The radio stations came in clear, even with just a pigtail. Except now the farther staions come in that didn't before but I always attributed that to a weak factory system.
Anywho, just thought I'd let you know.

I's a common problem on N-Bodies before 2002. In 2002 they started taping all the antenna connectors together.

Yeah theres a bulletin about poor routing and to reroute to keep from getting unplugged again.
