I have a issue with a 98 grandam gt 4 cylinder. I have had the car for 2 years and been gradually getting worse. It feels like it looses gas and then suddenly the car gets gas and jerks forward and will do this repeatedly and wont stop till i pull off the road and turn the car off for a minute or two then it works for a while. some time it goes for a couple days with out doing it and other times it does it a couple minutes later. when this happens I cant go nowhere because the more i try to go the more jerk it gives so I have no choice but to either push clutch in and glide to a spot to pull off or keep driving and jerking. I brought it to a shop and they blamed it on the alarm...I have no alarm!. i brought it back and he hooked back up to computer and this time said it was the fuel filter. i paid 100 dollars to have him hook to computer fix a stud and put filter on and it seemed like it did the trick but 3 days later my car stalled at mcdonalds and check engine light came on and stayed on. then it wouldnt start for a few minutes when it started it ran fine for a day and same thing happened and this time check engine light went off and never stalled again but now i am back to my car thinking its a bull and looses gas for a second then jerks forward over and over. Only thing i can think of is fuel pump but kinda expensive i was told so i am hoping to find out if this will fix my problem or if any one can give suggestion.

any help apprecieated

Sounds like a fuel pump that's overheating. Keep your fuel level over 1/2 for a few weeks and see if it still does it.

If it doesn't your fuel pump overheats when you're too low on gas (the pump is in the gas tank and uses the fuel to cool itself off). You'll need a new fuel pump and be careful not to let the fuel level drop too low too often.
