Hi,

Today I heard a ticking sound coming from the radio area. After doing a few searches I believe the ticking sound I am getting is from the Hazard light switch or turn signal/wiper module in the steering column. It is definetly not the engine as it only comes on periodically for a few seconds.

Since the car is under warranty, I will be taking it in to the dealer. Will there replace either of these modules even if they don't get the good fortune of hearing the ticking sound and is this part covered under warranty? Like I said it only makes the sound sometimes.

Thanks

Kinda hard to forecast what your dealer is gonna do. They should be familiar enough with the problem to know what to look for but there's only one way to know what they're gonna do and it's to go there and ask them...

This is a problem that almost everyone with a newer GA has had-even me. The problem is some dirty or corroded screw or something somewhere :( .... Not very helpful. But I remember the post and maybe with a search you can find it. The dealer will fix or clean it, but I would rather do it myself and save the trouble.

Really? Do you work at GM and have access to information nobody else does? It may not be a very rare problem but it certainly not affecting "almost everyone with a newer GA" either.

It's when you propagate false information like that that our cars get a bad reputation, despite the REAL data that independant firms gather that proves the contrary. The whole 99+ N-Body platform has a very high owner satisfaction rating.

Just because you've seen a few of our THOUSANDS of members mentioning the same problem doesn't mean "almost everyone with a newer GA" has the same problem.

Well I have owned 2 GA's. 99 SE and my 02 GT, and I know several people of varying years that report the same problem. I am good buddies with a tech at my dealership and he says the same thing. Since this is a random sample of varying years with a professional opinion, then yes it is an accurate statement. It is a bigger problem in the south (high humidity). Besides, it is only a minor problem, not a defect, so get over it.

Just go to that post that I showed earlier and follow those directions. I am going to do it today.

I usually try an do most maintenance and repair work myself (unless it involves special tools/equipment). Since the car is under warranty I will be taking in to the dealer. If it is just either the hazard light or turn signal module it should not take too long for them to fix or replace (but hopefully they take my word about the ticking sound because it does not happen all the time).

Well I tried, but the instructions got kinda weird around the part when you clean it. When I got it open, I saw what looked like a conducting gel on the copper that was black. I didn't want to wipe it clean because I figured it needs to be there. I guess I will be going to the dealer soon. :(

That's what i'm talking about, I just pm you with my number if you want to call. But I wiped off that black suff, and I haven't that problem anymore. If you move the controls, they still move fine and still have good contact.
