Ok, I hear peopel talk about how they are sponsored and such. What I want to know is, how do you get someone to sponsor you? Do you just go around asking people to sponsor you, or is there some "official" way to do so?

send the company a letter, a propsal outlining what you want, and what they will get out of it..
like just for your street car? htat is a lot harder than like a professional race series.. but can be done..
usually you will have to enter car shows etc.. the more you win, the better sponsorships you will get

I agree with red and this is very hard to do unless you have some hookups a toooo sweet car or are a people person and smooth out a sponsor

The more you have done to your car, the better the chances you have of getting a sponsor ship.

I am getting sponsered.. I was reading my car magazine when i came across an ad for sponsership. You sign up (give details about your car) and stuff, then if your car is choosen, it will be sponsered by some company..
I am getting some contract in the mail about this and hopefully, it will all work out..
the link however has been taken down.. (the new link is in the new issue that only subscribers get a month in advance).. and i guess it gets closed by the time the public gets to it.

yeah, that's how it works in car stereos too. it's hard to get sponsorship from big names like kicker and stuff, but can be done from smaller guys. and in car stereo they don't really sponsor you. they just let you buy stuff below dealer cost, but you have to attend every stereo comp in a so many mile radius and you have to win so many and so on. so you gotta do more than just slap a sticker on your car and drive around

A lot of it is PR work. I've gotten sponsorships for clubs, but never sought them out for my own car. I've done everything from write letters to shooting video, to preparing a press pack for a newspaper.
It's definately a fun process!

its not easy
1. you HAVE to have a competition worthy car. (race, or show)
2. you have to suck dong like no other
3. you have to write a professional proposal
4. you have to do lots of stuff for them once you get it
notice a pattern? "you".....its not all fun and games, you have to commit alot to it.....if you say your gonna be at a show, you HAVE to be there......now you MAY get lucky andh ave sponsors pay half or all your hotel, etc.....but most often, they will give you just discounts on stuff and let you go from there.
I dont know much about your car, but from what i see....youve got a ways to go.....not putting you down, its just its gonan take a whole lot to convince a company that YOUR car, above all others, wil bring in more business....they dont care about you, they want their business to increase....then, and only then, will they invest in you.

Grandizzle is exactly right. 9 times out of 10 you already have to have a show/race worthy car. Very rarely will a stock car get sponsored unless its owned by someone who has inside connections with the company and has a reputation for building very high quality show/race cars.
Even if the sponsorship dosen't get you 100% free parts or other goodies, any break on prices are always good. Its better than nothing at all.
