Can't say I wasn't the first to ask now :D

I'd love to go, but the drive is far, far, too long all the way from North Carolina. The only way I'd be able to make it is if I rent a plane and fly up for a couple of days. Anyone willing to pick me up at one of the regional airports? Like say maybe South Albany or Rensselaer Co? That way I wouldn't have to penetrate Albany Intl's Class C and also wouldn't have to pay an exhorbant parking fee and fuel prices.

dunno what number I am, but I am gonna be there....

contrapunk....your a pilot? sweet..... that makes you our 2nd pilot.... right now i am a student pilot.....

....IMO renting the plane would be far more expensive then driving up......

contrapunk
01-30-2004, 09:38 AM
Yeah I'm a pilot :)

As to the cost, I'm not really worried about it all that much to be honest. I'm currently in the process of doing a lease-back deal on either a brand new DA-40 Diamond Star or a used Cirrus SRV/20/22 (depends completely on price and engine time). - Of course I'd much rather have a Cirrus.

I'll basically describe a lease-back to you. I would be the "purchaser" of the aircraft, however, my old flight school would be the main "funder" of the aircraft. How this works is, basically, I buy the aircraft, I let my old flight school use it for training and they foot most of the actual bill and ALL of the insurance. As of right now if I bought a brand new Cirrus SRV at $189,000 my monthly payment, with leaseback, would be around $500 - that's it. It's an awesome deal both for the school and the purchaser, we just have to come to even terms on the type of aircraft and aircraft availability. If I get the Cirrus SR20 or 22 then the school will be able to give out a high performance rating to students, which would of course bring more business.

This works well for the flight school because with an additional aircraft with both an IFR package and high performance characteristics, they can do more business on a daily basis. On a single Cessna 172 at $79/hr rental rate, they average around $400 DAILY for one aircraft, and this is winter and most people are taking this part of the season off. An additional aircraft, at a higher rental rate would bring them loads of business and cash - thereby allowing them to basically pay for my airplane for me.

Check around after you get your license, this is the best, most efficient and affordable means of purchasing your own aircraft and most flight schools with a good amount of business are more than willing to do a lease-back, it's a win-win situation for all involved. Also, in 4 or 5 years you'll have your own, fully paid for aircraft with no stipulations remaining with the school (we're trying to negotiate a 4 year training deal) and you can just cruise on over to the FBO, hit up the weather station, check the METAR, TAF and winds aloft then jump in your aircraft and head to the beach, any time you want. Hehehe I'm extremely excited if you cant tell!

Hopefully by June I'll actually have it done and then I could just fly up on a whim :)

Wow, I never heard of that before, that seems like a really, really good idea..... You don't mind owning a plane that was used for training though? sometimes they can be beat on (I know it happens where I am...)

Anyway, not to get off topic.... is it ok if a friend was to come along and bring his own car (a Jetta) or would this be getting too far form the idea of the meet... Grand Am's........?

I am fairly sure I will be going, though it will be in rental Grand Am or Grand Prix....which of course I will take on the track at LVD! :evil2: Sonia wont be there, cause she will be in Arizona.

Looks like I am caravaning with Cathy and Mike; its safer that way anyhow.

CaCathy13

Mike and I are planning to go...Jay, we were thinking of taking the Vibe again...you could just hop a ride like last year instead of renting a car. Sup to you. We are also planning going a day early to see the sites at Niagra Falls...I'm not passing up that opportunity again.

It might be possible that I won't go...I'm looking for a new job and depending on when/if I get one, it could alter my plans.

BTW, last year going down the road, XM 80's channel played some theme songs from some 80's TV show...there is nothing like going 90ish MPH and blasting the theme from Knight Rider. So if anyone has XM, I recommend the 80's channel :D

schizm99
02-17-2004, 05:08 AM
Most hotels don't allow you to check in till at least 1 p.m. Some not till 3.. But if you call ahead then sometimes arangments can be made to accomidate you. (sorry for spelling errors).. I know I almost always try to make arrangments <--(I did it) to get a later check out time cause I hate to get out of bed!!

Remember people ... if you haven't already done so ... REGISTER so we can get an accurate count of who will be there ... now remember, if you register and can;t show up, that is fine plus if you don't register, you can STILL show up but like I said we just want a general idea of who and how many are planning on coming :)
