Sunday (2/1/04) will be the one year anniversary of the Columbia tragedy. Thought I would be a few days early and post a tribute to the men and women who died during this mission. May they rest in peace.

Tina, hard to believe it has been that long ago. But thank you for remembering. Sadly, I am ashamed to admit that I forgot about something on Wednesday the 28th. That was the 18th yr anniversary of Challenger.

Also remember them too. Like on 2-1-2003, I will never forget where I was on 1-28-86. To quote Ronald Reagan's statement on the day of the disaster, ...The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honoured us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and 'slipped the surly bonds of earth' to 'touch the face of God.'
And the same goes for the Columbia crew as well.

RIP. :(
Don, my Grandmother worked with Onizuka & Hughes Electronics/Aircraft. I have a signed autographed photo from him. I used to get all sorts of "signed" stuff from all the top secret stuff my Grandmother worked on.

Mikie, there was a teacher at Stow High School (where I went to school at, btw) that applied for the Teacher In Space program. Luckily, he was not accepted. Also as a tribute to Onizuka, an episode of Star Trek: TNG, The Ensigns Of Command, Data flies to a planet in a shuttle named the Onizuka.
Lastly, we should not forget Apollo 1. Virgil Grissom, Roger Chaffee, and Edward White. Their tragic deaths occured on 1-27-67.

I had the opportunity in the summer to visit the Astronaut's memorial at Kennedy Space Center. Truly sad. It was a great loss.
But now, we can look to the future. The Space Shuttle program is starting back up (hopefully to be phased out in favor of something better/newer...), the Mars rovers are doing ok (well, one of them is...), and there are preliminary plans to go back to the moon.
