Here a couple months ago I blew my 3300 up so I went to my uncles junkyard and got a used one for like $200. I got it put in and it runs a hell of a lot better than my old one, but I dont know why because the mileage on the 2 motors were about the same. With my new motor I can hang right with my friends oldsmobile that has a 3800 series II. and its a quick ass Olds. It rand a 15.9 in the quarter. Why does my new motor run so much better? Do some 3300's just run better than others or what.

you'd been surprised what a sloppy timing chain can do to performance. i put another 3300 in my grand am. it had less miles on it, like 60,000. i wasn't going to put a timing chain in, then i said, oh no i don't. since the motor was on the stand and it was easy to get to, sprung the 80 bucks for the kit and popped it in. BOY, WAS I GLAD!!! even though the motor only had 60k in it, the chain was loose as hell!! my original motor had 114k on it, but it seemed like it needed an oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets. I CAN'T STAND OIL LEAKS!!! so, the one in the car, is drip free. those motors are very sturdy. they don't burn oil, if you take care of them. the only thing is, i'm possibly considering finding a set of 3800 heads with roller valvetrain and swap those heads. i have a spare intake manifold, that i'll mildly port and match to the heads, do a little bowl blending to the heads, slap on my cold air intake that i'm still working on, FIND AN ADJUSTABLE FUEL REGULATOR, and i'm ready to go. the timing chain, and possibly the spring pressure, (if you're old motor had a ton of miles) has a lot to do with the power output. that's probaly why you have a bit more zip..... you lucked out.

The 92-93 3300 v6 has a roller lifter valvetrain, also the 3800 heads have one extra bolt on the intake side.
