I'm always amazed by the long terms a lot of people will take. When I buy a car I tend to finance it over three years but then make a payment and a half each month I can, so I pay it off in two years. My Camaro will be two years old in June and I'll have it paid off around then. GA is long paid for... I can't stand interest expense I guess...

I'm pondering it now. Not realistically, but idealistically. I need to by some lottery tickets & that Murano's mine!

It's because I have terrible credit... and not enough credit. I am only 22.... I'll end up paying $39,000+ for the car but that's okay by me. I have an 7 year warranty and LoJack that I am also paying for in that amount.

I don't think you can call people suckers since they're driving brand new cars...not '97's.
I pay $420 for my new Vibe, with only a grand down, no trade in...and I'm making $180 payments on my Hyundai-but that will be paid off next month.
I say you have to take what you can get, especially since a lot of us are young!! I don't have the credit line of a 50 year old, so of course I'm gonna pay more. That's the way it goes.
I bought my Accent for $8,500 with $500 down...in fact they had to drop the price of the car to 8500 because I could only get financed for 8 grand....at 14.99%....but I needed a car so I bit the bullet and bought it. Sure, I paid out my ass...but I had to start somewhere. It completely established my credit allowing me credit cards and ultimetly being able to purchase my Vibe at 22.
Also...I dunno why anyone would put down anymore that 5 grand on a car...cars depreciate so damn fast!!! There is no way I'd ever waste $13,000 on a car....I would have used that for a house or something....seems like a huge waste comparing what you would end up paying in interest.

I pay $379/month for 5 1/2 years, but as soon as I make the remaining 2 payments on my motorcycle, I'll put that extra money towards a bigger car payment.

wow.. 600 a month.. thats how much i paid for my whole car, i thought about financing a 04' cavalier (5 speed ecotec of course) but then i remembered i liked having tons of spare cash laying around, my insurance is 84 dollars a month on this car.. so my transportation expenses are nice and low :]
which is a good thing since im a full time student again

I got it at Bill Lang in Vallejo... I pay nothing now, it's paid for! :)
I don't have the best credit in the world and I was a little upside down on the balance due on my 99 SE that I traded in so that was added onto the financing.

Mine is $411/month for 4 years. It was the price of the Grand Am plus what we still owed on our other Grand Am that we traded in.
Would rather be paying that on a nice, big, raised up TRUCK!! I love trucks, just can't afford one!!:(

I pay $540 a month for my GA. I too was upside down on a 99 SE that I traded in on and that loan got tagged onto the the new GA. Am I a sucker? No, cuz I can afford my car payments quite easily. When your old car is falling apart and you sit your ass down in the leather seats of a brand new GA, it is very hard to say no.

Well I am pretty much paying off 2 loans is the reason my payment is high. I have excellent credit, that is why I was able to buy a brand new vehicle even though I was upside down on my previous car I traded in. The bank trusted me. But I can afford to pay $540 and not be hurting at all.

My payments are about $895 american. They are high because i have bi-annual payments instead of monthly. So about $150 monthly roughly. And it's over 3 years, what can i say, i got mine cheap!

$4000 cash out the door (incld tax, tag, title, dealer fee, etc.). Just got it this winter and it has almost 90k on the clock, but it's a great car that was extremely well cared for!
I paid 10 g for mine four years ago, used my credit line, 300 a month till whenever, well now its been about 4 years at 300 a month so the car itself is paid for, unfourtunately the credit line has paid for my visa a couple times and a student load so right now its.....0 for the car :-p but 300 a month x6 years :(
Ahh to be younger and not so stupid again woudl be nice!, but live and learn right!

Wow some of you really kill me in here !!. I learned long ago to buy used and pay cash. So last summer I purchased a 2000 GA in PERFECT condition with only 64k miles and picked it up for $3900 cash, I will run it for a few years I hope before it will be time for another used car. I HATE CAR PAYMENTS !!

I thought our payment was high, but my opinion changed after reading the first page. Our payment is $370/month for 58 more months (second payment due next week.) Of course that probably doesn't say much about how much we are paying on top of the sale price.
