Ok a few more questions... I want to continue working on my interior this weekend, and there is a few more pannels I want to paint.. But since one of them is an Air bag cover i am a little worried about messing with removal... Can the steering wheel air bag cover be removed, or am i going to have to mask it off on the wheel, and cover everything from overspray ?I thought about doing the passanger side airbag cover also, but i am not sure yet.. Might be to much, but the question is there anyway.. Do they come off ?

yes they do come off but it is not easy or safe. i dont know the exact details for removing them because ive never wanted to mess with them. but if you want i can look in my gm service manuals and let you know.

wouldn't he have to disconnect the battery to do it? That or just mask off everything you don't want overspray to land on,newspaper, masking tape,etc....

If you have the time.. If not someone might have done it.. I also am not shure if i want to do it... Expensive, and not safe. Like you said... but i also dont want to get overspray in the car also.

eh,i wouldn't really call it to much work,i mean if your just wanting to paint the air bag cover on steering wheels, basically you just cover your whole dash area including the windshield, just have to plan out b4 you go spraying because that stuff is nasty,i can't belive how much and how far overspray goes.

disconnect the battery BOTH TERMINALS TO BE SAFE!!, now I've never taken off the drivers side so your going to figure it out yourself but my best guess it that it just pops of, now the passenger side, just take out the glovebox by unscrewing the 5 8mm bolts holding it in, look in and up above where the glove box was now you will see two bolts holding in the Airbag undo those bolts and unplug the airbag, WALA! your done!

Why not just pull the fuse for the air bag?

this is out of a haynes manual, but it should be really close.

1. disconnect teh cable from the negaitve terminal and disable the airbag system. it says to look in the drivers side fuse panel, and disconnect the yellow airbag connector. you have to remove the CPA (connector position assurance) clip first then disconnect the connector.

2. use a #30 torx bit to remove the two screws, located on the back side of the steering wheel.

3. lift the airbag module carefully away fromt eh steering wheel and unplug the horn wire and the airbag electrical connector.

it has warning in big bold letters: when carrying the airbag module, keep the driver's (trim) side of it away from your body, and when you place it on the work bench have the same side facing up.
