It's been talked about over at gagt.com, and I had thought of trying to do something similar before, but today the time came to do a little "research".

I called up a couple of friends and was able to head over to GM's "Playground" and take a few pictures of the original SC/T concept car built way back in 1998.

The mod is a rear bucket seat conversion, with seats by Recaro. The over all mod didn't look too hard.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks to Jeff (GTManiac) for taking the pics!

From what I could tell the backing that the seats fit onto was made of Lexan. (sp?) and then covered in carpet.

The hardest part I would think of the whole conversion would be the bolting down. Because I believe those are right above the gas tank. So from what I was told, you have to pull the gas tank, which would be a bit of a pain in the rear, but not extremely hard. And then bolt down the seats.

The center console is just a slightly modifed stock center console. I'm sure someone with some creativity could make one. The cool thing about the one in the SC/T is that the center console there in the back, had 2 cigarette lighter adapters, and 2 AC/DC Plugs

The guys that came up with the mods for that car are freaking "mod gods"

Adam, I think that mods would be awesome. I haven't looked at your photos but I know what your talking about.

DJMike that used to be a regular on this forum had bucket seats in the back of his '96-'98 GA. ALthough he used stock style GA seats and not Recaro's it still looked great.

its not hard to do at all.....just cant be afraid to cut some brackets. im in the middle of molding a center console and redoing the molding that goes around by the doors.

^ what type of seats did you use. When I went back and actually was able to pull the seats, they seemed to have bolted quite easily. I'm not sure about doing the center console on my own. I may have to have that done by the CF guy I know :)

I have plans to do this... just curious as to what sort of parts I would need. I am working on getting the seats now. I am going to be using stock bucket seats. Any tips from people who have done this?

I am going to also put a center console in. Not so worried about that and the fiberglassing part, just worried about the mounting of the seats to the floor.

anyone that has done this, let me know. I would be very interested in it. I was actually thinking of rear bucket seats with an LCD monitor in the console. any good seats?

Just a thought guys. I liked that idea too but if anyone does it I suggest they check thier state laws before doing so. Most mounting points in a cars body are reinforced. If you just drill holes & bolt em in they might just rip right through the floorboard in an accident. Then you know how that'd go over w/ the ins. co. if anyone got hurt. Not to mention lawsuits by passengers, etc.
So I guess this is just a friendly suggestion that whenever you are dealing with seating & restraints it's good to check into the legality of it 1st & also, if you're unsure about the propper & safe way to bolt them in consult w/ a local bodyshop.

- Not trying to be a drag, just trying to keep it safe!:)

I say go for it, but for Gods sake PLEASE make sure it is not a hack job.

^ oh it definately wouldn't be. I do what I can to make sure my car is not "hacked" :)

In speaking with GM this mod is technically not street legal and there couple be insurance ramifications. However, no ones sat in my back seat as it is :)

Well maybe I won't do it then but I am going to figure out a way to mold a center console in there to have a flip up DVD player and screen and stuff. Maybe a place to mount my amp or something.
