the window nobs

ok, u know the little nobs u press down to make ur window roll down (power windows only). i want to make mine paintless, if i was to sand paper off the little paint, would they be clear?
also, can i do this for my air conditioning nobs to?

they have vinyl, not paint. People have said fingernail polish remover will remove it. do a search.
