View Full Version : SLP or Borla?

If I were going to purchase a cat-back exhaust, which would ya'll recommend? SLP or Borla? I've read that they will yield about the same HP gain (8-12HP). From what I can tell, the biggest difference between SLP and Borla is the material, with Borla having the better material. Would a set of headers also help me out? If so, how much?
Now, I've seen a lot of people saying that if you go with too big piping, you will loose back-pressure and hence, torque. So, if you put a "better breathing" exhaust setup on your GA, wouldn't you loose some torque? Thanks!

well, to be honest, the differences are slp (loud) is 2.5" and borla (quiet) is 2.25". i went with slp. they both are made of stainless steel though. i believe borla also uses a resignator (makes exhaust not flow as well and quiets the exhaust). i recommend slp, but that's me. i really really really love my car even more with the slp on it. makes heads turn all the time. i would listen to clips of the different sounds each exhaust makes and go from there. good luck.

Thing is, where can a person find decent quality recordings to make comparisons?

it was posted a couple weeks ago. and from the tones i can verify they sound pretty close. you can tell it's a recording, but it's going to be close to impossible to reproduce the sounds to sound like they're right there in front of you. but some of those are pretty accurate :)

You're right. They do sound almost the same and they both claim the same HP gain. So why the $200 difference in pricing?

Borla has better quality tips maybe thats the price difference.

possibly, i think they're just proud of them lol. i was going to order some borla tips for my woman's car. i was going to get some that were actually square dual tips with a slight angle cut to them. i was going to order 2 of them so she would have 4 tips. $250 for just the tips......then i still gotta get them here. the rest of the tips were like $40-50.....not these.......$124.95 a piece!

those borla tips do look sweet, but i don't think they're worth the extra price. for an extra 200 i would put some more performance in the car. just my opinion.

When I bought my borla, I really didn't know to much about cars. I figured, hey it cost more is should be better. Well I'm not saying I don't like my exhaust, but if I had to do it again i would probably go slp. The only thing about my borla is that it does have that characteristic borla sound albeit quite.

Well according to the clips and what I've heard in person. I'm a Borla fan. That SLP sounds raspy, even tinny at times. Like I'm just hitting the muffler from the inside with a tack hammer. Borla seems a little deeper :)
Just my opinion though! :)

I had Borla on my old '93 Probe GT. It was great, and if the cash flow is good when I'm exhaust shopping for the GA, that's what I'll get again.

video with high qaulity sound with a slp car on dyno (has eaton S/C too, so you won't get the whine unless you have the s/c too.) followed by a borla car on the dyno.
Borla gets my vote.
Also proved where the rev limiter is at the end of the video. 128.

I clicked it and it ran itself. Be patient. I didn't think it would run either, but had to wait for it do dl for about 3 or so mins on DSL.

i got mine to work, and i must say, that's the best sounding borla clip i've ever heard. much better than the normal i've found. i think both sound nice, but i still love that untamed crazy sound.
