My drivers side brake light went out. i replaced the bulbs and we also asked a dealership. They said there was a switch in the steering column so we switched that and it still doesn't work. The police are hounding down on me about it and no one knows what is wrong. Anyone know?

a switch in the steering colum? never heard of it. get a voltometer thing (can't remember official name right now) and see if you're getting juice back there. then go from there

I hope you didn't pay for something that didn't fix the problem. Take it back to that dealer.

No we had an extra column laying around. My dad had talked to a guy that worked at a dealership and that's what he told us to try. It couldn't be a fuse because that would be for the whole light and everything else works. Could something have come unhooked on the driver side? Like under the foot panel by the seat or something?

Get a meter like matts said. Check to see if you're getting 12 VDC to the bulb and check to see if you have a good ground. I would suspect a bad ground wire on that side, if there was no voltage, both brake lights would be out.
