I will be replacing the TCC solenoid and the Third Gear Switch on my 93 GA. I know that the switches are inside of the bell housing, but what I need to know is what are the steps involved in removing the switches from the transmission.

The Tcc is held in by a torque bit screw and you have to remove the harness as well. I have not replaced my 3rd gear switch so I wouldnt know how to do that one. Let me know if you need any further help cause its a pita.

You need to drop the left side of the cradle and remove the transmission mount in order to get to the side cover. once you can remove the side cover the tcc solenoid and third gear switch are there. I highly recommend putting in a new pan gasket and transmission filter since you will be dropping the fluid anyways

Can the tcc just be unplugged? I'd like to test this myself before going to a dealer. If so, where abouts is this located? Thanks.

Detailed problem -

Motor stalls when accelerating from a dead stop. This seems to only happen after running at a mid/high constant speed. If I roll to a light then accel without stopping this is avoided.

Also the gas pedal is not very responsive. If I push the pedal gradually, the car accels fine, but if I hit the gas, the car stutters so much so that my muffler rattles against my frame. If I have the pedal at 50% it will do this then if I let off to about 30% the car would accel fast. So in some cases, the car is going faster as I release the pedal.

The motor idles fine and runs fine at a constant speed.

Im hoping that this is just the tcc and will work fine after replacing it.

That doesn't really sound like a bad solenoid, but it won't hurt to try. There is a plug on the front of the tranny that you can just unplug. I don't know what it looks like on that tranny, but on my '89 it was round and gray with three wires going into it. Think I've heard that it's a blue plug on your style car, but don't quote me. You may get an SES light when unplugging it...but if the solenoid is the problem, then the car will no longer stall.
