Ok I am thinking about geting a Flowmaster 40 series... a single chamber with duel outlets... number one: how big of outlets do you guys recommend? Also should I remove the intake resinator now that I have a different muffler? If anything sounds off... let me know. Also suggestions are welcomed!

Thanx

Deffly remove any resonator thats on the car(mostly the air intake resonator if there is one on the v6's and the exhaust resonator)
As for the outlets that just depends on the size tip your wanting to get,i don't think outlets go more then 4 inches but on a muffler with no tip they usually get up to 2.5 at the most.

well since you have the v6 deffly go with either MagnaFlow or FlowMaster,BUT they do make full exhaust kits(cat-back exhaust kits) for the v6's not sure which one tho,its either for the 3100 or the 3400 engine. But yea,MagnaFlow or FlowMaster 40 series would be a good shot:)I was gonna go with the FlowMaster 40 but i have a 4cyl engine so that deep sound might not be so deep with my engine,i know the exhaust i have now isn't deep, only in the low rpm's it is.

yea i know that there are full exhust kits... they are a little to much for to to spend. right now i am looking for a lil performance boost and sound and this sounds like the right thing to do... how easy is it to do actually? thanx for your help so far. wondering if tips can make a difference?

You mean to install the muffler yourself? Well if you know how to weld and are able to jack the car high enough to get a steady hand and everything i don't see why it would be too hard, but if not then a muffler shop should be able to do it for under 50 bucks, atleast around here it is.As for tips, they usually just help determine the sound a little, not much but enough to tell a difference.

Alright thanx... yea I think I can handle it myself. What do you think is a good price to pay for just the muffler?

save yourself some headache and grief. get the 80 series flowmaster. it's a crossflow design like they use on camaros/firebirds. it sounds almost the same as the 40 series. you'll have a difficult time running duals with a 40 series

How much more is the 80 series then the 40 series? Why is it more difficult to run duals off the 40? J/W

Thanx for the suggestion

with the 40 series on a GA you'll have to mount the muffler sideways to get it to fit. when you do that you're going to have both outlets facing the same way. the passenger side outlet would be easy, it's just a 90 degree turn out. but for the drivers side you're going to have to have a 180 degree turn to head back toward the driver side of the car, then you need a 90 degree to go out the back, not to mention you have the inlet pipe to clear too. and you'll have to have the pipe mandrel bent too bc pressure bent would crush on the 180 degree and wouldn't look too hot on the 90.

the 80 series shouldn't be more than 20 or 30 bucks more than the 40 series

I got the Flowmaster 80 series for about 190 dollars installed, with tips and all. I love the way it sounds, although it seems like i cant hear it once my rpms get high. Maybe its blowing the sound out too far for me to hear it :)

and i'm not sure why that is. muffler shops get the 40 series and 80 series for about the same price (like i said, about $10-20 difference for a dealer), but they charge you about 50-60 more to put a 80 on than a 40. my uncle does the same thing to people. i kind of wonder if flowmaster gives them kind of a set price to sell them at. he charges about $110 (on average) for a 40 series and about $180 for a 80 series.

don't see why 40 wouldn't work, theres quite a few people that use it on their GA and say they love it,but as for the muffler its up to you on what you want.If you go to a place that specializes in those mufflers they'll know how to get the pipes bent right, plus theres some nice dual tips out there for this setup,i love it,but i have an SE so i can't do the setup.

the 40 series will fit, that's what i put on my fiance's car. but you in order to put a 40 series on and have the tips coming out like a newer stock GT it would be more time consuming and more money to do so than worth. if you wanted to put a 40 series on, have one pipe coming out and having one tip that goes out to duals it would work fine. but the 80 series is SO much easier to work with on the newer body styles (not sure what the underbody of the older body styles look like).

and just to get real technical with ya...a one chamber flowmaster is actually considered a racing muffler. 40 series is a 2 chamber :)

im going to get an 80 series muffler...do i need to worry about the outlet size of that compared to the inlet size of the tips i want? or will a shop be able to do it?

lol and im not trying to steal the thread or anything i just figured it fit in the subject.

I got my 80 for 60 dollars. Installed for 43. Havent gotten any tips yet. but ill be looking soon. I am looking for dual tips slanted upwards a little bit.

as for the sound, it does sound great at lower RPMs then dies down. I have no clue. Maybe it is still loud outside the car. I put on a cone filter in the engine bay and when im WOT and the ehxuast dies down, the filter sounds pretty cool.

So performance wise... how much will the 40 series differ from the 80 series? And how about sound? Is it really noticable or what? Just wondering b/c I am deciding on which one to put on... I am having a shop do it (friend I know works there) so it isn't that much $$$.

they sound pretty close to the same. 80 might be a little louder. the 40 series delta flow is quite a bit quieter than the 80. i've got a 40 series on my fiance's 4 banger and i like the sound of it

ok thanx a lot guys... i think i will go with the 40 series... the shop i got doing it will throw it on and everything for $80... so i think that is a resonable price. thanx for the help and your opinions!

one more thing... any recommendations on the types of tips to get? size and what not i am pretty sure i am going with the 2.5" out on the muffler... so and suggestions?

thanx.

i got the 80 series on my ride, installed with quad tips for 230. take a look at my sounddomain site for pics. it sounds really clean (like a v8), but i didnt notice a huge HP gain, just more of an intimidation factor.
