Been looking for a month or so now (since I decided that I was going to trade to a Grand Am) and thought it was time to say hi. As I said I traded to a 99 Grand Am (from a 2001 Volvo V40) I loved the volvo but with new job couldn't keep it. I needed to get something less expensive. I wound up getting the Grand Am because it seemed like a good deal, even with the higher milage (it has 234,000 km on it, but the price was right) it runs and drives pretty much like new. I do need to do the fan resistor replacement, but everything else works (it is a black se 2 door 4cyl BTW).
I am impressed by how well the car has held up to the milage, there are really no rattles to speak of (from the interior) , and like I said it seems to drive like new. The one thing that I need to do something about is the front seats, the drivers in particular is pretty much worn out (foam in the cushions is dead). I'll ask about that in the apropriate place when I get some $ saved up.
All in all I am very happy with my Grand Am (and my first GM product) so far. (it has been about 4 weeks 4,000 km now) looking forward to making it even better in the next few months.

A 99 with almost 150,000 miles on it? Wow. Hope she continues to hold up well for you. Any idea on the background of the car, like if she was a fleet or rental vehicle?

as far as I can tell the car was used for commuting (such as I am continuing to do) from the Niagra area of Canada to probably the toronto area. I am doing 200+ km a day (over 120 miles /day) commute (not my first choice I admit), and that is not completely uncommon (as the housing prices are much lower in the Niagara region than around Toronto). It was definately owned privately before I got it, but that is all I know. In any case every thing seems to be in remarkably good shape (there are a few things that need to be fixed, like the front seat), and I can afford to drive it on what I am now making(unlike the Volvo). I do think that it should give some of you guys with the 99+ GA hope that your car can last that long too. I will definately keep you informed of any problems that may occur (and ask for help when needed, I am pretty mechanically inclined (have kept cars in much worse shape than this one on the road safely) so will be trying to do most of the work on the car to save $$$). Thanks for your good wishes
Scott
