Was just wondering if the mat underneath the hood actually had another purpose other than to keep noise down at all? If it doesn't would it be a bad idea to remove it?

i heard that itll help put out a fire in the engine bay by dropping and eliminating the oxygen coming fromt he top. i thought/think thats a load of BS. one thing tho, your hood may not be painted all the way under that mat. i took mine off to repaint it and i saw a small unpainted area under the mat.

My SC/T hood didn't come with one so It can't be that important. It is only for sound anyhow,so take it off and reduce the weight of your vehicle......

i heard the same thing dave, but i didn't have one on my cowl induction hood on my truck. and you wont see them on ram air type hoods. i have one on my truck only because i put the factory hood back on it and it's still there and i'm too lazy to pull it off. it isn't bothering me by being there

Yeah your right,it does only weigh about 1 (pound). But 1 (pound) lost is a big deal when it comes to performance.Any vehicle manufacturer would kill to drop 2 pounds off of a heavy car if it gained them better response. Most racers remove their floor mats and they only weigh about 6 pounds with all 4 of them combined. Why do it? PERFORMANCE
But seriously it will make the sound of the vehicle more beasty, not by much but it will.......

If you actually know someone that took their floormats out, and nothing else, just the floormats, for performance, please punch them in the face for me. The general rule is that our ET will drop about .1 seconds for each 100 lbs.
My hood cover thingie has been gone for a while now. I took it off to help my WAI breathe.

LOL. I would rather keep my mats in and keep my carpet clean.

The floor mats aren't all they took out.But what my point is,is that you want to lose as much wieght as possible for preformance. If I new someone that took just their floormats out expecting big gains then Yes I would punch them in the face for everyone...LOL

Did they take all the redundant bolts out of the engine bay too?
Sorry, but the floormat thing just trips me out...

floormats?? :roflmfao: that's just stupid in my opinion. did they notice a gain with the floor mats out? my theory is have enough power that you can keep your creature comforts and not worry about it.
i've heard of people taking out seats, systems, spare tires/jacks, and a whole list of other things to shave some pounds, but floormats are a new one on me

On some cars, the hood mat's there to protect the paint from the heat of the engine. Newer cars may utilize the mat to let the engine cool down slower, and at a more even rate.

why dont we only use 3 instead of 5 lug nuts. that'll shave a couple extra pounds off too

Weight has alot to do with performance. Some laugh at the idea of losing 1 pound but it makes a big difference.

i can agree with that to an extent. in a all out race car, yes it makes a difference, but on a timid street car it's not gonna make that much of a difference
