A breather usually goes onto the valve cover to vent crankcase gasses.
I heard a breather from a LT1 will work in place of the oil cap.
A guy years ago on the forums named RedDeth put one on his car after having the lower intake gasket replaced 3 times. After he installed it he never had to replace the gasket again. I was thinking of doing this since we've had our gasket replaced twice already.

Wouldn't that be the realm of the PCV Valve?

red death had to replace the gasket so many times because the new gaskets werent out yet. i dont think it was all that related to the breather. from what i have been told, the gasket issue is because the dexcool eats through the gaskets, i dont really know tho.
back on topic, a breather is only needed on the 2.4L i think. you can use one for cosmetic purposes, it looks really cool, but its not needed.

it allows crankcase gasses to escape while keeping other crap from getting into the valve cover(s). you can get one at o'reilly auto parts, advance auto parts etc. there isn't going to be much difference between em....unless you find a vtec one or something:D.

Okay there's this tube that goes from the crankcase to the intake. This is where all the excess vapors get recirculated into the cars intake, an emissions thing really. A side effect is murky gunk excess oil gets into this tube and goes into the intake which makes it all slimey and oily and restricting passage over 30000 miles of driving or so.
By disconnecting this hose from the intake, and putting a breather on the end of the hose, you know eliminate the gunk going into your intake and back into the car to be recirculated, hot gasses and carbon shit not good for performance really.
Sometimes this breather will drip a lil oil, in which you can actually get an oil catch can and then put a breather ontop of that. Oil catch cans are pretty and shiny, and add a nice touch to the engine bay. Just remember to clean out the can every so often so that you dont have gunk overflowing if your car is prone to that kind of puking.
;) they look cool.

Can anyone put up a pic of what ya'll are talking about? I'm all about not letting gunk into my engine ;)

I have 2000 GT1, and the breather is located on the rear valve cover, it's a plastic line that goes right into the top of the intake near the throttlebody. There are only two things connected to the rubber hose connected to the throttlebody, one is the air sensor on the right side, the other is the breather, plastic line right on top. You can buy those, like minature filters, breathers, at Autozone. If you put one on, just plug up the hole in the intake.
