Looking for some wireing diagrams for sony's Rotery commanders for there mobile audio.. I want to make a custom remote, I have done things like this before with a sort of reverse engineering, but i do not have one to take apart so a wire layout of breakdoown would be great if anyone has one... I have a newer sony head unit, but i think it is standard on those radios.. Any ideas would be great !!

It seems i have found the answer to my own question :) the rotary commander uses resistance to tell the head unit what to do.. this is good news. because this is the case it will be very easy to fab my own remote with any style switches i choose.. I am now very excited about this.. All i need to know now is what resistances are needed to do what. Then i am home free :)

heh... Sony... bleh...

But, awesome site and that's a great idea! I would never actually use that for anything, hell, I don't even use the remote that came with my Alpine. It was fun for the first week, but then when my friends would ride with me, they'd steal it and change the tracks and what not with it from the backseat... :P

I am going to make some controles for the stearing wheel though... I need to do a little fiberglass work first. I never have done any, and want to practice a little first... then i will make some nice little remote for wheel :)

why dont you just go to a junk yard and get a 99+ grand am steering wheel with the audio controls in em already. at least use the buttons if you dont use the entire thing.
