I just put this CAI on and now when the engine is cool it detonates real bad if I get into it.But when it warms up it goes away mostly.I don't know what is causeing it but I was wondering if yall could give a lending hand in helping me solve this.Maybe there is a trick to put more fuel in the engine without buying an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.HELP please.........

It's not the answer that you're looking for but keep your foot out of it until the engine is warmed up. I believe that too much pressure in the cylinders with a cold engine leads to blown head gaskets.

i agree with him. although i dont think i've ever heard of that. and most of the detonation i've heard of is at higher temps. :???:

Thats what I thought too but for some reason it likes to detonate at lower temps. And I've never heard of the head gasket thing!!
And another thing I know this is probably the wrong forum to post this tread on,I didn't realize it till I was looking at all the forums and found the Problems and Solutions forums. If anyone wants to move this ,go ahead and I apoligize....

on my car, the little pipe from the pvc valve came off and it was making a loud suction noise and would pop and act like it was going to die when the motor wasn't reved.

yea make sure your PVC hose is clamped down, that little thing can cause some trouble if not fixed. And if you have a CAI make sure its connceted to it securley as well

You shouldent be detonateing at all what other mods do you have, How do you know your detonateing?

Exactally what I was going to ask.
A CAI, or any other common bolt on mod I've seen for Grand Ams will not give you engine knock.
You might want to double cehck for any boken vaccume hoses or anything you might have borken/kocked off while installing your CAI.
A few thing that would cause knock are cylinder pressure either from high static compression, or from forced induction. Another would be timing and also lack of fuel. On high milage motors its common to find a build up of carbon as the source of mild engine knock as the carbon deposits hold heat and also slightly incress compression making the air/fuel mixture more unstable. This is why people with higher milage vehicle may find that their car that technically requires 87 octane fuel runs better with a higher octane. Its not giving it more power, just keeping the mixture morer stable and allowing it to run properly.

Well the only other mods on the engine are a throttle body spacer and NGK iridium plugs with 8.5mm MSD wires. The engine only has 11000 miles on it so there is no way it could be carbon buildup.Well it sounds like detonation,It sounds like popcorn popping under the hood.Detonation.....Atleast I think...I re-checked everything and didn't find anything loose or broken and there wasn't any vacum hoses popped off accidentally.I think I might just go ahead and get a TPS enhancer or a Adjustable FPR and see if this fixes my prob.If you guys can think of anything let me know !!!

Even When i run low Octain fuel i cant hear anything, Thats what the Knock sensor does, It will take loads of timing out. I dont think your detonating man.

If I'm not detonating then what sounds like popcorn popping under my hood when I accelerate hard.....

I dunno man It could be many Diff. things. you might want to get it checked out. It is Possible that your knock sensor is ****ed, it might be alowing some crazy advanced timing, But thats probably not the problem, because the timing is only going to advance as much as the IAT tells it. And from the Knock i have herd onec or twice in my car sounded nothing like "Pop corn" Is was more like someone hitting my engine with a hammer.
