Just got some Infinity Reference 5 1/4" component sets for the front doors. I read the other threads and ordered the Metra 82-3300 speaker adapter to go from the 4x6 to 5 1/4", but will there be any other extra modifications I'll have to go through? My biggest concern is the magnet of the 5 1/4 hitting the window roll-down bar inside the door frame. Has anybody that has the Metra and 5 1/4"ers down there know the answer? Thanks a lot. Viva La Grand Am!!!

I put in the Infinity 6.5 components.

The adapter acts as a spacer, so the magnet wont hit anything.

I had to cut the bottom corners of the adapter so the door panel could fit back on. I had to drill holes in the door for the screws, and I'm not sure about the 5.25s but my 6.5 Cones hit the door, even at low volumes.

I'm gonna make a custom baffle and cut a whole in the door (eventually), so the door doesnt cover the cone.

I've also got the Metra's on order with the same component set! I'm hoping I can get them installed this weekend, but it may have to wait till next weekend. If you get them in before me let me know how it went. I'll do the same. Peace.

It's a waste of money... You can easily make an "adapter" out of a thin piece of wood that works exactly the same. That's what I did with my 95' and again with my 00' for my 6 1/2's.

OHHHHH . . . NOW you tell us. ;) Just kidding. Well I don't really have a good way to cut any wood or anything like that. I'd would have probably spent close to what the adapters cost anyway. No worries.

Oh, ok. Heh, I shouldn't assume everyone has a benchsaw or a dremmel... That's the best thing about being home, all the tools my dad has :P If I need anything cut or welded or well, anything, I can get it done here free of charge!
Also, when I first put my speakers into my 00', I took some adapter sheet metal that comes with some HU's and just bolted my speaker directly into the door with that, and where the speaker was touching the door I put some foam around it. That worked pretty damn good, too (even tho I didn't think it would) and held up for about a week until I had more free time to get to my wood... heh
