Ok, so i've come to the conclusion that i was a cheapskate and it came back to kill me. I bought cheap kenwood components, they only have passive crossovers which suck because i can't do any phasing or set any jumpers on them. Plus i don't want to cut my doors all apart and put the tweeter next to the subwoofer. So over the next couple months i will be buying this "system" Tell me what you guys think. I'll be buying the headunit last i think.

i'm excited to use the crossover if i get it because i'll be able to calm down the highs with all ove those jumpers inside the crossovers, my tweeters are in the A-Pillars of my Grand am so i hope it will help, i'm sure it will

Alpine SPX-137A 5 1/4 components

oh wow, i'm reading the owners manual, it has 60 unique phase settings in the crossovers, it even has one for tweeters in the a-pillar

The Type X is Alpines F1 status line....very high end.

i found them for $220 on ikesound and 229 on crutchfield, they say 380 on their site. just from reading the owners manual i want to buy them right now.
matts

they're selling thier F1 stuff that cheap??
Hopesfall85
03-09-2004, 11:59 PM
its the same specs/model number i don't see how they couldn't be
matts

but they're F1 headunit lists for $3000 and they have a processor that's $7000

its not the F#1 status, its a spin off from them. we sell those speakers at my work. they dropped in price because theres a new version coming out with x-overs that are less than 1/2 the size. they are pretty good speakers tho.
one thing...that amp is too weak. the spx speakers are VERy inefficient speakers. they need lots of power. youll need the v12 series, not vpower.

well i don't understand why not, i'm reading this thing and it says recommended power range 8-50 watts RMS. and that amp will give it 40.

if you have a way to keep the really low notes from getting to them (i.e. a active crossover) i'd keep notes below say 100Hz from going to them and put about 80-100 watts on them ;). 40 maybe good, but 80 will be better. i've got 75 going to the type r's and they're supposed to be 50 rms i think

well i'm having professionals do it, i called them today and they price matched crutchfield so i'm sure they'll do that stuff. But i'm just really happy that they actually have settings for where my tweets are at. then i'm getting those alpine 2 ways you have and a 4channel amp. then this summer i'll get an alpine headunit. i'll see how i like everything with the pioneer but for now i still really like this headunit.

i talked to the alpine company today and they said 40 will be good and 50 will just be louder so its not a big deal.

if you like the pioneer headunit you'll love an Alpine headunit :)

03-10-2004, 09:23 PM
haha oh yea? the headunit is the last thing i'll buy, because first i'm getting the components (next week) then then 6x9's then the amp. The only thing i was wondering was why the expensive alpines even had a signal to noise ratio of 105db as supposed to my pioneers 95. could you even tell a difference? if you can't then when i'm out of college for the summer i'll buy a nice one so i'll be All alpine. and i can finally put my harsh high problems to rest :)

Alpines have a very clean sound to them. even the cheaper alpines have a 105dB s/n ratio. and the options they have are far better than pioneer

well good, now how do you like your gf's components, do they put out enough bass? i'm not having any subs in my car because i don't care for them, so between the type r 2-way and those type x's i should be alright?
matts
03-10-2004, 11:49 PM
honestly i dont know how either one of them respond on the bass side. they both have high pass crossovers set at about 100Hz. then the sub is set at like 105Hz low pass
Hopesfall85
03-11-2004, 05:08 AM
oh, well i hope i get some moderate bass out of them, ya know just enough to even out the sound.

just because you have a sub dont mean you're going to be able to hear it coming from 2 blocks. i know of several people that just have enough power to have a little uumph to their music. get you a 8 or 10. they dont' take up much space and dont take a whole lotta power to be happy.

what matts said is 100% true. too many people get the misconception that subs are for boom boom boom, not true. thats more of an abuse of an instrument IMO. subs are meant to cover that part of the sound spectrum that a mid cant possibly handle.
Hopesfall85
03-12-2004, 10:34 AM
yea maybe having 2 small 10s would be good but for now i can't really afford subs, i'd rather get all my other stuff and save that for way later.
