ok, so i ordered the passlock2 interface for my remote start alarm, and its not working right. apparently the passlock 1 was discontinued in 98, and my car was built in dec. of 98, so could my car have a passlock 1?
im gonna do some research, otherwise my alarm is finished being installed.

... are you using the DEI Passlock Bypass? If so, they are known for having troubles ... according to what I have been told, they have bad batches every so often :(

damn well that might be it. heres what the alarm is doing...when hooked up to the computer, everything works except the remote start. it is supposed to turn on the accessory, then the ignition. instead, it runs the ingition, then when thats done, it runs the accessory. problem is, theres no fuel pump so no fuel.
it worked a few times, intermittently, but nothing consistent. not even sure if the problem has anything to do with passlock.

That dosen't sound liek a passlock issue. if it was passlock related,It probably wouldn't even attempt to start. I could be wrong, but thats my first guess. Just a thought could the acc. and ignition wires be reversed? if not my the installer then maybe by the alarm manufacuter? Maybe something is crossed up on the relays? I've never had a problem with a remotestart on a 99-newer Grand Am before like that.....it sounds weird

Both the pink wire, and the dark green wire need to be powered up the whole time during remote start, the orange wire will power up when activated, power off when cranking, and then come back on after the car is started. Do the idiot lights on the dash turn on when remote started? If it does, then the main ignition is powered up. Also check to make sure that the dark Green wire is powered up as well during start. If it doesn't the car won't start. If it is powered up during the whole remote start process, then I would take a look at the passlock 2 module. When you remote start, does the theft light in the dash blink? If it does, then either the module is bad, you don't have the right pass 2 wires hooked up, or the resistance is off or the module just isn't being powered up. The inconsistant starting would have me looking at the pass 2 module to begin with. I've run into quite a few GM vehicles with passlock 1 and 2 that would start for up to a half hour after it had been started once with the key, even if the module wasn't working properly.

Chris...thanks man, your suggestion worked! it was the dark green wire that wasnt getting any power.
so the remote start works now, but about 5 seconds after its started theres this sound, kinda like a coin falling. it might be from the tranny, not quite sure. it only makes the sound when i remote start, not when i start with a key. it has us baffled.

That one I have no clue on, never run into that situation. Unless it's something inside the remote start brain.. About the only thing you can do is try to locate the sound.
