View Full Version : Just What Does a Transmission Interceptor Do??

So I was sitting here thinking last night about these tranny interceps and what they really do. I've got a friend with a 99 Regal GSE with the "normal" and "sport" shift option. Now when you leave it in "normal" the tranny slides it into gear. Very smooth, but not real prompt. There is some lag. In "sport" it snaps it right into gear. I mean WHAM, very fast, quick and prompt!!
Is this what the Transmission Interceptor does? If so, too bad there isn't someway to rig a switch as in the Regal GSE.
OK, just my thoughts......

Since modern transmissions are controlled via a computer, the Interceptor boosts the fluid pressure that is normally controlled by a computer with generic inputs. In essence, it tricks the computer with different input.

I seen where quite a few ppl on gagt were haveing problems with these hurting the trannys.

Autotrans Interceptor (and b&M shift kit) jump up the transmission line pressure to make firmer shifts.. Very much like the Regal / GP performance shift feature, exact same thing.
arctic, haven't seen one person with a problem. Actually from what I've read, higher line pressure actually prolongs transmission life, especially people with boost

On my other thread right now "4T60E autotrans interceptor" I wrote that the only people having problems with their tranny from shift kits are the ones who used it on their tranny that arent meant for it. ie. some people with the 4T45E and 4T65E have tried to use the Shiftplus on their tranny (which is only meant for 4T60E). Otherwise I havent heard of anyone complain about this. Although it is wise to get a tranny cooler if you are firming up shifts cuz they generate more heat. BTW yes the people with boost LOVE the autotrans interceptor and they gain about .2 on the 1/4 mile esp. those with N2O.

Yeah, I can tell you from building transmissions it doesnt care how high the line pressure is, JUST WHERE IT IS APPLIED. I have built a THM350 that shifted so hard a u-joint broke, and one screwed up an engine (turned it backwards! :wow: )

I thought the interceptor only delayed the TCC....if so wouldn't it just shift at a higher RPM, not necessarily harder?????? If I want harder shifting isn't the B&M better??? I want one, where can I get what I want (hard firm shifts)....tell me!!

dude you have a 4T60E, that one isnt gonna work. The one for the 4T45E firms up shift points, the one available for the 4T60E is the one that will only delay the TC

Thats what I thought too.....thats why I asked if the B&M will be better for what I want, or do they not really make one for the 4T60E that will do that???
And now, I'm getting lost, I could have sworn the 4T60E wasn't vacuum controlled.....but the B&M site says yay....correcto???

I'll PM you on that when I figure this crap out!

so these won't necessarily make you go faster, just tighten up the shifts and take away the slip in it? How much do they go for and which one should i look for that actually makes the trans shift quicker?
i can't even find a B&M shift kit for the 4T60E....
nm found one at summit racing for 42.95 and advance auto parts orders them for 49.99
