for a 2.3ho? i found it on (obviously) ebay and wondering if it was any good for when i do my custom exhaust.

Still need a cat. Obviously he is hoping for improved flow and better performance.

Yes, that should work fine. Most "highflow" cats don't really differ too much performance wise. (well, maybe Random Technology ones)

There is really no point in a highflow cat if all you are doing is a cat-back system. Your stock cat is highflow enough, you will see no gains.

Stock cat. is also 2" diameter and rather restrictive...
