I am thinking about buying my friends used tweeters to throw in my front side pannels. I know that you need to have a crossover to throw new ones in... correct? Well anyways what if the crossover is built in the tweeter will those work or not?

Most "add-on" tweeters have filtering caps to remove low and mid frequencies. So yes, they should work. In my experience "add-on" tweeters never sound good, they seem to actually subtract sound quality.
In other words,
Components > aftermarket 2 or 3-ways > (any speakers + add-on tweeter)

IMO.........
Unless you can get a set that matches your speakers I wouldnt, for example if you have alpines up front, get a set of alpine tweeters. JL get JL tweeters.
The reasoning is so that they will be timber matched ( the drivers will blend seamlessly ), as long as your using the proper crossovers that usually come with the tweets.
in other words, it jus wont sound right

i'm sorry you two, but i think you'll be ok with adding a different set of tweets. i've got all alpine speakers in emily's car, but i also have 1 extra set of kenwood tweets in the back and it really made a difference and they sound great

Im sure it will make a difference, and will be 'ok'.
But I guess it all boils down to how picky the listener is.
Like myself. :)
