View Full Version : Crossing the border
Ok I am not likely to be attending again this year :( I know it sucks, anyway, my thought or question for everyone is crossing the border from Canada to the US, I had recently heard that they were going to start checking for passports, is this true, or a crock? Just curious to what others had heard

I have a passport, but have only had to show ID like once in the past 6 or so times I've crossed.. If you have one then you can show it, but it sure isn't necessairy. I haven't heard about them making that mandatory, and I don't see that happening, at least not for a little bit. if anything it just makes things faster, since passports are harder to fake..

... I don't have one and have never had a problem ... the way I look at it, I have nothing to hide and it doesn't bother me to talk to the boader guards as they are just doing their job ... I'll be fine :)

I woman I work with just went to Niagara Falls, I can ask her if she needed to. I don't think so, even after they almost ran border and they sounded the horns. (yeah you guessed it, her and her husband aren't the brightest lights on the porch.)

I know for a fact that as of right now you do NOT need one to get across, just a plus, if you got it, use it. However, that could change, who knows.. The worst that will happen in the near future is them taking extra looks at people without them I would suspect..

A passport is not required to enter the US or Canada. It is a slight bonus, but not a requirement. I don't have a passport, and I probably won't have one for the meet either. I've crossed the border countless times and never had a problem. Like Kelly mentioned, I have nothing to hide.
Although.... lol My tools in the trunk last year made the US border guards a little nervous. They kept asking me what they were for. When I finally told them I was going to a car rally they understood. :)

IF you're a Canadian citizen you will not require a passport but at least one piece of current government photo ID plus a birth certificate. Otherwise you will need a passport.
The passport is always better though.
Ya thats what my thoughts were on the subject, just wanted to check to be sure and figured might as well post this for anyone else wondering as well ;)

I always carry mine just in case I'll be making 2 border crossings. I just make it a habit of handing them my drivers liscence, passport, and vehicle registration. Less time they have to keep me, the better.
Edit: If there is anymore talk of Canada in this thread, I'll lock it! LOL! :D :D

hehe.. they get nervous with car stuff, and tools.. I told them I'm going to a car meet. She looked at me 'What?' I told her three of four times.. then she thought I was street racing.. I'm like look at my 17 second car.. lol.. well, didn't really say that, but I did have to explain all about a 'car meet' and how it wasn't street racing like fast and furious.. lol

I have been to Canada plenty of times and I have never neaded a passport. But taht is because I am a US citizen and it might be different for Canadian citizens though I highly doubt it.

We do not REQUIRE it but it's preferable. Meaning if you already have a passport bring it. If you don't no need to get one just for that.
