K just bought a 2000 GT...it has a Delco deck...Havent really checked in the trunk for an amp... do they put a factory amp in with delco system or is it just for Monsoon system? and where would they install the amp if there was one... I have seen some in between the 6x9's on the back deck..but that wasnt in a GA.. And honestly how good is the factory system... it sounds good from what I have tested but how much can the factory 6x9's handle.. is it possible to stick a small amp in there (if there isnt one already) to make it sound a lil better.. see the thing is I am not a huge bass person...but I still like some...more than the average I would say just dont want the rattling in the trunk with the huge systems... THanks

well you can have a sub and not be the kind of system where you're heard from 2 blocks away. you could add a 10 with a couple hundred watts and have enough to add some uumph to your sound. :)

but the amp is going to be in the trunk, behind the carpet, on the drivers side, up on the fender.

thats exactly what I want is something that will improvethe sound but like you said I dont want anything that can be heard 2 blocks away... now is my factory cd deck going to have the output for the sub and amp and enough power for them... I just sold my pioneer deck from my old car... I prolly should have kept that but didnt... oh well

no, you'll have to get some a line level converter. that turns the factory wires into an rca output, then it's turns everything normal. aside from the remote wire, but that's easy.

but i'd say get a good 10 and give it about 150-200 watts. then you'll have some low end and a little bass you can feel.

me being a prick :) monsoon is only on 2001+, 99-00 had the premium package.

premium- amp powers only 6x9
monsoon - amp power all speakers

Factory 'premium' amp puts out about 25Wx2 to one of the dual inputs on the 6x9"s. The other input is a direct line from the low-power factory head unit.

so i could just buy a lil bigger amp for the 6x9's and it will sound better. How much more power should I go if this will work... or should I go with a 10" sub for some bass.. I dont want alot of bass just to make the sound better!!

No... I would NOT do that. If anything, add an amp and upgrade the front components, or like you mentioned, an amp and a small sub to help the bottom end. Kelly added 2 10" subs to his factory '99 system and it sounds pretty damn good for what it is.

Don't try to amp the factory speakers!

now with the 2 10" how much bass is there?? that seems like it will put out more than I want...

With the 2 10"s, there is plenty of low end. I was just using Kelly's car as an example, since he's the only one I know personally that's added subs to a factory '99 'premium' system, and left the rest stock. If one 10" is enough for you, then it's enough for you. :) It's all personal preference. Myself I run a single 12", because of the music types I listen to. The 12" will extend deeper than most 10" subs, and fits my taste in music better. (I ran a single 10" in my old Sunrunner).

Whatever you choose is up to you, we're just trying to point you in the right direction. :)

thanks for the direction... lol I pretty much listen to anything.. mostly rock and rap...with 1 12" would the rock sound to bassy? Also which brand of sub and amp should I with? which is better for the price.. I dont want to go all out and spend alot of money for it..
Like Ive seen Lightening Audio stuff for cheap.. 12 " sub w/box and amp to drive it for like $150 or so... any good?

For most rap, a 12" would be best. For older rock, 8" or 10" suit, but my 12" works fine for me. For new rock, (Nickelback, Creed, Mudvayne, etc), there is a helluva lot of deep bass, and I love my 12" for that. Keep in mind that you have a nice EQ that you can use to fine-tune the amount of bass you get. Use the slider on the far left to turn down the deep bass if you so desire.

As well, keep in mind that your speakers will not produce a sound that isn't there. If there are no low freq effects in the song, then a sub will not magically add them. It will only accentuate what is there.

As far as what to get, I'll let someone else answer that, as I'm not up on the newest components. I only research when I'm looking to pick up something new for myself.

Good luck in your hunt for great sound!

thanks for all your help.. i appreciate it.. yeah I am not to into subs and amps and what would be better and stuff like that...

Well I have been looking online at Best Buy and they have some lightening audio stuff Here is one link..

But like I said when I had my old system in my old car( without subs) I had pioneer. But I wanna get something cheaper for now...

I'd stay away from anything Lightning Audio... It's all cheaply made and crap. If you're looking for something, go with an Alpine Type R 10"... That would be perfect for a one sub setup, and you'd need an amp pushing 350 RMS... that might be what kills you with the Type R...

like i said, 200 watts in a sealed box. 10 or 12 you'll have nice, tight, punchy bass.
