Okay, so this is part of an ongoing problem my GT's been having…
it started out with a hesitation and the 'check' light came on, so I gave it to my mechanic to read the codes and do the necessary work. I was thinking it would need a complete tune-up.
Well now it's still in the shop because one of the codes was for a 'camshaft sensor', says my mechanic.
Is this going to cost me big bucks? Anyone ever had or heard of a similar problem?
Mechanic says they've got to check all the wiring, which is down on the backside of the engine.

The Verdict:

My mechanic said that 'this part rarely fails'…so he advised that I leave things alone for now. The code was for the Camshaft sensor…(anyone ever heard of this??)
He cleared the codes and said that if the 'Check' light comes back on then he'll replace the necessary parts.

There is a crankshaft position sensor and a camshaft position sensor, but normally there aren't many failures in either. And if there is, it's usually the crank sensor.

He's not lieing to you, but unfortunately my experience with that particular sensor is non-existant. It's never been mentioned as a problem.

Did he check the ignition coils for a possible problem there, or did he just check the codes? Hesitation can be caused by several things, and those codes are rather general in definition - just because that's the code (actually, there's two codes for cam sensor circuit problems), dosen't actually mean there's a problem with that sensor.

The Saga continues…

I picked the car up from the shop today (I couldn't get it yesterday cause there was so much damn snow here). After a new fuel filter, which was clogged pretty good, all new engine filters, new tranny fluid, and hours of trouble shooting, it cost me just over 200 bucks.
I'm flying up I-87, on my way to work, and everything seems great. Engine seems smooth, we've got good pedal-feel, and wouldn't you know…yup…that damn 'check' comes back on.
…time to check those sensors.

Change out the Cam Sensor. The Crank Sensor and EGR valve run through the Cam Sensor before going to the computer. I had the same problem. Read my post in the problems and solutions section under "Possible SES solution" or just hit the search button and enter 94whitese in the author box tp find it quicker.

Yup, the sensor's been replaced…and the car is running very good. The hesitation and roughness have gone away. And the best news, of course, is the 'check' light has not come back on.

But it never ends…cause now when the engine is cold, like overnight cold, i get in and turn the key and the engine turns and but doesn't fire right away on the first try. It kinda spits and sputters but doesn't start. On the second turn of the key it usually fires up. It almost seems like it not getting gas.

Any ideas?

It doesn't need plugs or wires, or any filters. They were all just changed.
As always, thanks.
