If your running 1 amp for each sub, pretty much any amp with an RMS power rating of nothing less than 130watts will do the job nicely. I've heard these subs taking a whole lot more power than that too, so don't be afraid to give them more power.

250/1? not sure if ther actually is a JL amp like that..

a whoooollleee lot of ppl have told me that JLs can handle twice their max power.........thats y im thinkin of runnin a 550w max amp to each sub....rms on the amps r still sumthin like 250 so even if i dont bridge it, itll still be good

well put it this way, JL's can handle the power if you pump em with enough, trouble is, the more power past their recommended rating, the more the longevity of the sub decreases, just be very much aware of that

JL does make a 250/1, asnd its great for the application. the 12w0 has an RMS rating of about 150-175 watts. max power means nothing at all, so when shoosing an amp its all about RMS. with that said, theres no reason to give each sub its own amp, one amp thats powerful enough is definitely adequate.

id recommend a 500/1 or realy any 500 watt RMS amp as long as it puts out clean power. thatll be plenty to both subs.

funny, but im picky in a sense that I keep the woofer, and woofer amp the same brand MINUMUM in a system. If anything else is different products, i can deal with, but most industries design their amps to be most compatable with their woofers, whether it be marketing techniques, or simple ease of application

with that said.... I would start looking for a 250/1 or a 500/1 wouldnt hurt

I've got the same sub as you Notroious, well i just have one,but I've got an Alpine V12 250 RMS bridged going to it and its been going for a year pretty much so if stay at 250 or below that you should be fine, but would go with the 500/1 and hook both subs so infact i would belive each sub would be getting 250 if im not mistaken if you wire them up right

it would depend on which PPI you have, because the engineer who disigned the "slash" series for JL used to be the PPI amp engineer. JL allowed him to utilize technologies that PPI wouldnt allow him to use.

overall, they are similar both in qulaity and price, except now the PPI customer service sucks, and the quality dropped a little when DEI purchased them.

theres some real basic but good quality amps to be had for around $200. id say alpine vpower series, or maybe even a kenwood, but its very important to get enough power in there so you dont blow out your subs.

i dont suggest getting tweeters alone. i recommend getting a full component set. that way you have a midwoofer and tweeter that are designed to work together, and compliment each other. those also come with xovers.

keep in mind that if you cheap out on everything now, then in 3 months youll regret it and youll end up spending the money eventually anyway. i say wait til you can afford the right equipment.

yeah ive "cheaped out" for years, and I just decided to do it right the first time, and I find myself satisfied longer, and not constantly purchasing new products

i havent been into the car audio scene for a while but tome at this point there are 3 groups.

People who just want lound bass, dont care how true or clear it is as long as you can hear it a block away. there people usually buy the cheap stuff, where ratings are all max power and lord knows who made the stuff. ave amoutn spent ~500

second group is more quality, usually hitting mid range to very high end stuff, dont care about loudness as much as the quality of the sound. 750+

Good spl boyz, this is the club of big sound but quality stuff, entrance will cost you at least a grand, everythign is goign to have to be high end, note people in this group can switch between spl and quality, the same with the quality group can switch to spl.

However, the cheap group is going to have to contend to buying a completley new system if they want to enter the other two categories.

alright....enough of this thread. my income tax money came in today and i decided to go with my first pick and went with 2 of the 550w amps. since there is nothing in my car, i hooked everything up to a car battery in my room and hooked up the subs so i have 300 watts goin into each. i was really surprised with how it turned out. i heard that JL's were good but GODDAMM. my whole room was shaking and stuff started fallin off the walls. im happy with the result. im thinkin of seein how they sound bridged in a lil while. :jaw:

i like youre groups, but youre missing some stuff. the amount spent doesnt necessarily fall into that group. ive had customers in the first category that had $ to drop and got a w7 with a 1000/1.

theres another group too, who have a nice factory system ( AUDI, MERCEDES, BMW) who just wanna add some low end, myabe a single 10 or 12, to compliment their factory setup. they can spend anywhere from $300-1200.

yeah, i was at my favorite stereo shop the other day and i was back in their install bays talking to the installers and they had a convertible BMW back there and the only thing they were adding was a L7 8". it looked great too, the sub was behind the fold down armrest in the backseat. you could fold it down and the sub was sitting there staring at you. and the box was little and was hardly noticable in the trunk.

anteck pretty well hit the nail on the head though. dollar amounts are a little off though. i've got a tad more than $750 invested and i dont consider either one of my systems to be top quality. they're both what i would consider middle of the road....maybe a little closer to top end than bottom end.
