Hello i have a 1992 Grand-Am SE with the 3.3L engine and it an automatic. about 2 months ago it started acting up, when you do a fair amount of stop and go driving for at least 10 miles, all of a sudden when you come to a stop the engine dies. it restarts just fine and idles, but when you put it in drive it dies immediatley. if i wait about 5 to 7 minutes, i can restart the engine and put it in drive and drive away as if nothing ever happened. It has about 105,000 miles on it, i have changed the fuel filter under the rear end, and i have changed the tranny fluid, and oil. none of these have helped... HELP!!!!!!!

I have 3 gusses
fuel pressure is low. maybe pump is not pumping at it's full capictity (sp)
Air filter is dirty. it should be white and you should be able to see through it looking at a light.
TCC on the trany.
The fact is idles means you have spark. so air and fuel are the other componets that is stopping it??

Those are three good guesses, lets look at them.
Low fuel pressure, Maybe if he was having a problem with power loss, hesitation or stumbling, so i don't believe thats the prob.
Air Filter, good possibility (it would have to be clogged solid) but the engine would not idle and run very rich. check it anyway.
Tcc, most likely, especially on decell from highway or cruise speed. If it feels as though you have a stick and forgot to push in the clutch as you come to a stop. That would do it.
I'll add a dirty t-bore and IAC, this will happen especially when at operating temp. Cools after 5-10 mins and is fine.
And also a bad/weak MAP sensor, might trip the light, might not. you would need a scanner to observe the Map voltage in relation to engine vacuum.
Hope that helps

air filter is fine, I really dont believe it's the fuel pump, but i dont know what the "IAC" refers to and the "T bore" refers to i will check the map sensor, anymore ideas or clarifications would be greatly appreciated. ThankYou.
