okay. got a question for any takers who know about these grand am transmissions. after running my car for about 45 minutes at a time now, when i come to a stop, my engine dies. it starts right back up but when i put it back into drive, it stalls again. i had a tech look at it and it turns out that the problem is my torque converter clutch solenoid. the shop wants about 400 dollars to replace this sensor because it is internally in the transmission. i would like to try and replace this myself. how should i go about doing this and what new seals and such would i need to purchase as well?

I think you might be able to get away unplugging the TCC with the tradeoff being a little bit of a loss in milage, IIRC, but I'm an manual guy myself...

Having a manual transmission myself and not wanting to pour money into a aged car, I would try to put a switch inline so I could turn the TCC off for city driving and on for highway use. I have no idea if this anyway possible - just a thought.
