HA i cant spell, but thats not the idea..

ok so i have a 2004 Grand Am SE 2.2 ECO..

but pretty much i am going to make it a GT..

so tommorow i am supposed to go get a pair of the GT tails because i know they will fit, but i am also going to replace body pan(n)els with a 4 door because thats what i have.
everyone said that everything is interchange able from the 99's to the 04's and i wanted to know how you would go about putting the GT doors onto the SE body.. because i know on the 96's the bottom of the door came off (correct me if i am wrong here)
so.. what can be taken off of a GT and put onto an SE? someone please fill in the gaps of this 18 year old nieve senior! :D

thanks,
-sam-

you can just remove the "ribs" on the door pannels from a gt and they will fit your stock door (may require drilling im not sure how the attach but i know that the do fit over stock door...)

and judging by your frownie face you dont like your eco se..i love mine at first i dident but after researching the history, current aftermarket and future aftermarket i am very happy and love my eco i would much rather have it over any 3.4 i have gotten about 700 dollors off on performance parts just because people wanna make a after market for this car/engine and now that im making some more money i will soon have my eco running 275 horses and while there are some more impressive numbers around these boards on the 3.4 but they will have spent more money in the long run to get same numbers.... and a 250 pound motor pushing those kinds of numbers in stock se cloathing is a pretty mean daily driver if you ask me... but thats just my opinnion

dont get the ribs keep it smooth and clean... :D

its not that i am not happy with it, i just feel we got the shaft!

we went from a 2.4 to a 2.2.... i realize gas mileage is better, but my friend has a 3.4 and he goes the same (mileage) as i do..

sooo then..

can you send me some links for some after market parts for my ECO? i do love my car! but all my friends make fun of it because its called an ECOtech

but yea thanks,
sam

back to the subject at hand...i did the conversion. the ribs on the doors stick on with just two sided tape, but you need to get new panels. if you use the ones off a car, they get warped when removed and wont stay on all that well. no matter what i do i cant get mine to stay on, i think ill try using screws (if possible).

Dart inserts? If you mean to fill the little hole, you'll need 2. One for each side of the car in the front...

This is pretty much on topic so i figured i would post here instead of starting a new thread

What are these dart inserts? I just did the same thing. have the same damn holes in the side from taking off the side skirts, and need a temp fix untill i can get it bondo'd up and what not.
AS well as a bunch of what looks like caulking towards the back of it the underside-ish part of the car where the side skirts where attached . Is there a way to get this caulking off w/o damaging what it is there for (what is it there for?) Once i get this stuff off im gunna put a strip of black vinal allong it .

those holes are in the 99+ ga to help hold the rocker panels on (gt) and for the SE they hold that small piece of plastic on. a graphics place on here makes some, or any graphics place can make em for you, all it is is vinyl circles with a pontiac logo on it.

car audio dave, check your pms...

I wanna do a gt conversion too, all you need is this as far as the EXTERIOR goes: (i think)

-front bumper
-rear bumper
-door panels
-gt side skirts? (not sure...if you want the black stripe to go all the way around the car i think you need these...)

anyone plz clarify

Getting nit-picky, but in order to fully get the exterior look you need the tails, the muffler, and the window trim (GT's don't have the chrome trim), in addition to what's already been posted. Not to mention rims/tires. Then of course there's the final drive ratio, the ram-air, and the interior changes (The same interior as the SE2). :)

haha, the tricky final drive ratio. that may pose a problem for some. and I like the SE interior a bit more, but everything else, the GT accels in. and gotta have those chrometechs!!

the chrome trim aroudn the windows can be taken care of with some blakc pinstriping. i priced those parts at the dealer and its not an easy or cheap job.

heres the body parts youd need:
-front/rear bumpers
-door ribbing for all doors
-rocker panels (yes they are different)
-front wheel-well liners (i didnt use em, but i had to majorly modify mine)
-tail lights

the final drive gear isnt that important if youve done performnace mods you can be faster than a stock gt. i havnt changed my final drive gear but ill beat even modified GTs. (intake, PnP manifolds, downpipe, exhaust, computer reprogram)
